Fantastic News Big Zippy - there are a few people starting 2011 debt free - must be a great feeling!!!
Technically we will owe for the loan for the car - but as we have some savings put away, and the car is an asset (and it's nowhere near where we were - not even the same galaxy! lol) we've sort of offset them and declared debt free
No more mortgage, no more homeowner loan, no more overdrafts, no more credit cards. Awesome feeling. :T"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -
Hi SH
glad you had a nice break, but ouch to the fridge and its contents. When you think you've got everything sorted and something comes along like that, it can knock you back a bit.
If looks don't matter that much, see if you can get a 'second' from a factory outlet. That's what my old f/f was, they knocked £50 off because it had been dropped off a pallet and was slightly scratched. 8 years later its still going strong!

Thanks Gill.
We've decided to leave the fridge for now. OH bought his new pc today so everything else now on hold altho I have found the holiday I want with one company for 1686 and another for 2045 so seriously tempted now... It was kind of planned for this year.
Well our family goals this year
To become significantly more fit and healthy
To improve our finances
To spend more time socialising and entertaining and rebuild our friendship network
To have a holiday abroad
To sort our house out once and for all and declutter all unneeded stuff (I keep hold of things just in case I or someone else needs them - then can't find them and buy a replacement anyway!)Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Well a good start today - I am up! Half dressed and am eating porridge! I wasn't sure whether after all my 4am bedtimes recently I would be able to get up! I did an hour and half's work last night to take some pressure off today too. OH is also up and out. DD is at MIL's today and DS is looking forward to a day of peace.
I am going to try and get Barclays to give me a new pin sentry device today - as at the mo I can't find mine...
I filled another charity bag with stuff yesterday and started a second so the declutter has begun again
We have been massively over-spending recently and of course finding every excuse for it in the book but we really need to pull it back in now... Having given my bank account a bit of a float through a super balance transfer I am thinking of trying to go back to using cash as I think it is my cashback CC that is leading me into temptationAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Have ordered a new pin sentry device but they wouldn't just give me one which was disappointing.
Bought some new shoes today but did need them. Started day with costa coffee take out which was yum. First day back at work went well. I also opened my crimbo present from my boss - some nice choccies! So that helped too.
MIL met me 7 miles away rather than making me go 25 to her house so that was good too so hopeing me and DS will get to go to the gym in a bit. Wonder whether OH will come home on time or whether he has gone to the gym himself. Need to go and look what's for tea in a min but currently sat typing with a blanket round me!! Cold in our front room - turned the heating down a bit now most of out!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I'd be tempted to go back to using cash if the cashback card is too much of a temptation SH - it's not worth what you get back on it, if it means you are spending more and in danger of another SPIRAL. I have to admit I am a lot better than I expected using mine - I log everything I spend and won't go over my limit for that particular month - then pay it off. I find it has stopped me with the 'small spends' as I only carry a little cash (and play mind games at how long I can stretch the cash in my purse out!!) and won't use the card for small purchases. I found I was always nipping to the hole in the wall for tenners or 20's and it mounted up big time - each to their own though - I don't have children round and about with me and I know I WOULD have crumbled big time if I'd have had cc's when they were younger!!
Hope everyone's settling back ok after the Christmas hols.

I find I work much better with actual cash, at least for every day stuff, the temptation of credit card is too much, even if it was cash back.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

hi milann and gill - yeah I think I should go back to cash - the problem is that I've lost my pin sentry device from Barclays - and altho I have ordered a replacement it hasn't turned up yet - so I have no idea at all how my money is doing
I am still not well - started with sore throat and streaming cold Thursday and am struggling to shake it off. Took half day A/L on Friday to try and give myself a boost but ended up working longer than planned so that didn't totally work... Really need to get better and back on form and then back to the gym!
DS is now 13 and has had relatives over one day to celebrate and his friends over yesterday complete with firepit and fireworks both times. He seems happy. DD went to a swimming party yesterday and I was impressed with how well she did - so from that point of view rejoining the gym has been really good for her. Her feet are so much better now too.
I skipped church today and stayed in bed - but OH let DD bring a friend home with her. Luckily for me they are playing upstairs. Had lovely piece of chicken with mashed potato gravy and peas for dinner... Feel completely dehydrated but struggling to drink... nursing a glass of water at the mo but not getting very far! Have put one load of washing in but have probably 5-6 more to do! Being a mum the work never ends does it!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Well... the house sale went through, we ended up with a bit more left than we expected, MIL didn't want as much as we forecast, so we can officially say we are DEBT FREE!
:j :money: :T
It feels like I'm all clean inside and out, ready for a fresh new year new start.:D
Ahhhhhhhhhh palpable relief!
Great news- well done!

Aww thanks Jellie. I must admit my not posting is probably a sign of my denial about our current finances - gave OH a load of envelopes to open today... I don't want to know! Still feel really ill - if I cough I can't breathe and feel like I am going to be sick - lots of phlegm sticking around - can't seem to shift it...
Will probably try and work from home tomorrow as don't want to be off sick...
won £5 in one go on a free bingo game - and reached £10 withdrawal limit to Amazon so that was a nice surprise today!:j:jAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
