I learn something on here every day. Didn't know GHD stood for that!

Milann- I have been coveting a couple of le creuset dishes because they match our new decor! Keep seeing them on offer and having to resist! They are on a list of possible treats if I get any money for Christmas- although I guess I should possibly put any money towards the wedding!

Have things calmed down at work at all SH?

    Hi Milann, BZ and Jellie

I didn't know GHDs stood for that either so I've just learned something too!

Work is manic. I was almost crying today as there is so much to do and no way of doing it. I took myself off to a little room to get some peace and quiet and just did what I could. That did help. I am hoping that it is mainly pmt that made me feel so bad.... Half day tomorrow as DD's school play. DS and OH have already been tonight - apparently she was fab!

MIL coming but since DS did a clean last night and the rest of it tonight there has been no mad dash round and we look respectable! Result! I had a talk with him about how he is going to use his money - agreed to give him £3 cash and put the other £20 in his bank so he is less likely to fritter it. We also agreed we would set up a new bank account for him where he would put at least £20 a month away from what he earns towards something worthwhile - whether that be windsurfing lessons on holiday, or a foreign school trip or ski trip or whatever. He quite liked that idea. So here's hoping we can teach him some money sense and that he doesn't just fritter this!

I was a bit naughty money-wise today. I took the car to the garage and had to walk a mile or so to work - but half my route was past high street shops - so I went into a few of them - and finally at M&S bought some things....

Black cords £16, Emerald green jumper and necklace for £23 and a Zip up cotton long sleeved top - another £15 but TBH for M&S it felt a bit of a bargain... :)

The garage think they have managed to get the problem with my car sorted - they stripped it down, cleaned a valve out and changed a pipe all for the princely sum of £100. They charged me 4 hours labour at £25 an hour which TBH I thought was fab - Vauxhall charged me £70 and didn't even fix it - and wanted another £476 to sort it out!! It might one day still need the valve replacing which is an expensive part but hopefully I've found a new garage I can trust... Watch this space.

    :(
Did you take on an assistant in the end? Did it help?
DS and OH have already been tonight - apparently she was fab!
:T And with the amount of lines she had all clumped together that's even more of a :j!

Nice work on the MIL tidy and getting DS to agree to savings. It's a valuable thing to be able to do, esp if you get in the habit of just setting up a DD and treating it like a bill that's gone out and almost 'forgetting' about the savings acc.

Hope the car's now sorted. :)

I think we're going to leave one of DH's loans as it is (not a bad rate and should be done with in 5years at the normal payment), and pay everything else off, when we get the house money through (which should be in the next couple of weeks) and use what we would've paid it off with to buy a car. That way we're not taking any further credit out and don't have to faff with all that carp, and the payments are only £132/month at worse, which is probs about the same/less than finance would be anyway... I think. We'll decide for sure when it's actually all gone through though. :) Plus we could end up needing a "proper" car at some point in the next year anyway, if family plans materialise, so I figure we may as well just bite the bullet and use money that we will already have in a lump sum to get the car now, rather than trying to save up enough over x amount of time to do it then. And at the end of the day we need a car anyway and would only end up (potentially) spending more on getting a banger that would need more doing to it anyway...

    That's the theory anyway...;)

Just cleaned the oven hob area - DS had missed it. And cleaned other surfaces - think he had also missed the sink - but for a beginner - without a list to work from he is still doing well. Think will take it easy tomorrow as have lots of flex credit hours anyway.

I have now got the assistant - but she is currently being borrowed and is only part time so still not that much help to me. Can't say more - really in case anyone from work ever reads this!

I think your car proposal makes sense - with your mobility issues - being without a car is just impractical...

Laughing at your DS missing bits, it probably looked wonderful at first glance. Maybe he should have a reminder list, things to check off?

Good idea about putting the money straight into the bank, although I was really good with money for years, spending struck me late in life!

Cheers, I'm hoping it works out...
I *may*'ve fallen a little bit in love with a Focus CMAX - Diesel Automatic - today. It's like a cross between a Focus family car, and an MPV - higher ride height and automatic, so good for me, but also diesel and not as big and cumbersome, so better fuel economy and cheaper road tax. 4* NCAP rating too. Everybody wins. :D
Only problem is that the house sale still hasn't gone through yet (mortgage processing is stuck in a Halifax backlog) and they're relatively rare, so I'm worried we're gonna miss out on the chance of a local one iyswim. There's only one within 40miles atm...
