Thanks everyone we are back already, that went so quickly! we are back already, that went so quickly!
The ship was absolutely vast, the cabin was lovely, there were lots of facilities and glitzy gimmicks, but we did not enjoy it as much as going with p and o. There were fantastic free restaurants but they were almost impossible to book, and there were just so many people.
Back to shed loads of washing now, have just done a mr t shop and bought lots of healthy stuff as I have eaten and drunk so much in the last few days, I am dreading the scales tomorrow morning :eek:MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

I had a chat with my parents yesterday , as I mentioned recently mum is very kindly giving me £10k from the sale of grans house. They have not asked what we will spend it on, but I have mentioned that we owe lots of money (they know this anyway!) and it will help with the mortgage.
I am not sure how, but the conversation turned to who inheritance money belongs to - the person it was left to or you both as a married couple. My dad said he thinks it belongs to my mum as they were her parents. I disagree though, as if you have been married nearly 50 years , isn't everything you have joint? Maybe I am just old fashioned
They seemed surprised, and in the future my brother and I will inherit quite a large sum (possibly - you never know the future), and I said what ever comes to us will be both of ours, they did make a jokey comment that they might not want to leave me anything now!
I don't think it was any slight on dh as the conversation was also about other people as well as us, so it's a general opinion.
To me it seems an unusual attitude, my mum has not worked since she had me (a while ago now ) and I have had years not working to bring up the family, so surely it's swings and roundabouts? ) and I have had years not working to bring up the family, so surely it's swings and roundabouts?
Anyway, hopefully it will be a good week, I have booked today off and am starting the healthy eating again, plus it's payday Friday - op day :jMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

I'd agree with them to an extent. My inheritance was mine but I chose to use it to benefit my family. When my dh inherited he bought a R o lex he felt that was the best way to remember his loved one. I would never have expected him to let me have a say and vice versa xMortgage Jan 13 99260.00 87253 April 2017

Technically any sort of gift, be it Inheritance or not, legally belongs to the actual person it was gifted to. What they then decide to do with that gift is then up to them
Say you paid the money towards the mortgage, you can get a Trust Deed done to protect it as 'yours'. But I do get to see all the worse case scenarios at work so I'm very mindful of how money can really bring out the worst in people.
It can get really messy/complicated when couples divorce as any wealth get factored into account though.
It is swings and roundabouts though ng. One min I feel guilty as it I worry it appears that I don't trust DH, the next chuffed that I'm getting the mortgage down which benefits us as a family in the long runCurrently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

I think you've hit the nail on the head about the big ships. The ships are amazing, but the sheer numbers of people makes it a less relaxing experience.
I read there was an app you could download to book restaurants etc..... but I'm not sure if I'd like to book every time for free restaurants. I expect it for the pay restaurants, but for the free ones I'd expect to just turn up
 Re inheritances.
We've always regarded any money that comes into the house as 'ours', regardless of the source. I inherited some money from my mum, not a huge amount, but it was always 'ours' and not just mine. The conversation never cropped up with my parents, but as they also shared all the money that came into the house, I think they'd have agreedEarly retired - 18th December 2014
