  • I use cash too. Too easy to spend on cards. Re the Yankee candle, it is a lovely thing for you to have but don't you wish your nan had lit it and enjoyed it, as it was probably a gift? Since going on the mf path I have consciously used any lovely things I am given straight away, what is the point of having them tucked in a cupboard? Have a good day, sounds like things have been a bit tough. X x
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

Just caught up - huge:grouphug: for you, ng xxx

Like Squirrel, I am making sure I use the 'nice' things now - if today isn't good enough to use them, when will be? (with the exception of the Waterford crystal - that is definitely saved for special occasions - I love it and it's discontinued - and the kids prefer the funky ikea glasses anyway!) :D

Hi greent thanks for popping by :)

I think people save for best less than they used to, my parents still have a full massive dining set for best, best glasses etc. Silver cutlery. I would find it a pain to.store and clean it all when you did need it.

We are off to bury st edmonds xmas market this friday, I booked a very cheap room for dh's birthday. Now I am unsure whether to cancel the room and just go for the day (1 hour 30mins drive or less).

    Reasons to go:

    A night away

Its booked and was for dh's birthday

Hotel was.v. cheap when I booked, now.sold up after price doubled

    Reasons to cancel hotel:

Dh not arranged cover for work sat.

Kids.to be left HOME ALONE for first time, they will be fine but I will be stressing they have left the back door.open all night :(

Dh arranged to have all.his family over, the only get together for xmas , sat night for a takeaway. He thinks we can get the kids.to.set the table so its all ready :rotfl: what will be required is a full day cleaning first! Plus I could put xmas decs up early :xmastree:

We do love it there , in the past we made whole weekend's of it while my parents had the kids and stayed in a country hotel , one year in the snow! This feels like a bit of a rush.So hotel or no hotel? Oh, cost wise.the room was £52 and I can cancel up to day of arrival for free.

  • Sounds like you NEED a nice relaxing night away but firstly will it be relaxing from all you list and secondly do you really want to go. If either are no then cancel, save your £52 and book for a more convenient time.

It is sad when you are doing the house clearance thing. We found the same when cleared my parents house. When people get old, they just don't seem to consume much, and the cupboards are packed with things. For some reason, my parents had about £3000 in cash hidden in various drawers and tins all over the house. They'd draw they pension out of the post office each week, but never needed to spend it all.

But it was the thing that pushed me into decluttering my house and using the things we have kept.

Although my mum and dad's best Wedgwood teaset, which they never used, has been sitting unused in my cupboard. I really must get some use out of it, as it lovely

I don't know , we are still mulling it over!

Hi goldie girl, its really touched a nerve with me as I don't want people rummaging through tons of stuff after I am gone. It would be stressful getting older knowing that there are so many things surrounding you that will be harder and harder to sort out as time goes on.

    Funeral tomorrow :(
