    No shs, definatly not.

Mrs money penny I am so sorry for your loss, just do it when you are ready if you can.

Seven of us spent a lot of the day sorting and we are about 1/6 th of the way done , they were both collectors of things some very valuable some not but its all mixed up, its a case of moving some of it around to mums house to go through slowly. I have nabbed an ornament of a stoat they were given as wedding gift and grandad's favourite book from when he was a boy - dracula , also found a bram stoker signature in it , but will give that to mum to sell if they want it back.

Very strange seeing so much from the past, even found some drawings from when I was about 10 tucked away! So sad though and feeling quite numb now, dh in a bad mood which is not helping really, although dd being a sweetie and making me watch a few episodes of peep show to cheer me up :)

  • Hi Newgirly,

I am very sorry to hear about your Gran, as others said it must be hard to have to go through her belongings and have so many memories brought to the fore. I hope Peep Show is cheering you up.

I do have a diary although not much OPing going on at the moment, at the moment I feel more like I am getting all my spending urges out the way :o

Take care and have a good evening.

Checked the acconts last night £613 spent from the £1000 1st oct- new years eve grocery budget. I went way over in oct and have been a lot better in nov. I'm also topping up the boys school canteeen accounts with at least £30pm from this , so not doing too badly.

The lack of money for arranged xmas treats has been solved, I can use an extra month of child benefit we get once a year, phew , if we are careful then everything will.be ok this year :T

Gas and elec.read yesterday and the elec reading is a problem the last few readings its been hard to make out the figure on the old mter easily, so I put the lower one of the two. It appears it should have been the higher as now it has whirred round the reading is a lot this time :( usage up from 224kwh to 1374kwh  I have made odd overpayments and upped my dd recently so hopefully it won't be too big a difference!

Diet out the window lately , last night I had a big bowl of tagliatelle in sauce from a jar, followed by a large baileys :o I never had big meals like that anymore, organisation is the key I think ( and not being a pig!)

newgirly, so sorry to hear about your gran. my mil passed away almost 2 years ago quite suddenly at the end however we had a 3 bedroom bungalow to clear earlier in the year as my fil had passed away very suddenly just a few months before. Turns out he was a hoarder big time - public rooms always smart and tidy but OMG the bedrooms and attic literally could not get in to them, so i appreciate it is a big job going through other people's stuff and how emotional it can be. You will get there so take care of yourself xxx

Very stange, I posted a reply to this yesterday and it seems to have vanished?

Daisy I am so sorry for your loss, its a horrible job going through other peoples things when they have gone :( my gran did say all along to mum that she will have to sort it all out one day!

Yesterday was not great , starting with me cracking the screen on my tablet (the freebie lg one I got with my phone, after breaking 2x ipads) The dog did a huge wee all over the kitchen which I had to clean with my brand new mop which got snapped in half outside the back door when a fence panel blew down and squashed it in the night.

Then I checked my account and noticed a refund , turns out it was because the car insurnce had been cancelled due to my not sending in proof of ncd :eek:They won't budge , so what origionally cost £189 for the year has been refunded at £119 and I had to get another quote , new price a couple of.weeks later £347  At which point ds1 enquired as to.why I was crying was it over car ins?! And that I should stop using it and get the bus :rotfl: ( I am not usually such a sissy, its just been a rubbish week!)

Anyway new.policy bought, apparently they don't need proof as its all on a central system now  Got the price down to.£247 am still pretty gutted with myself for forgetting. Couldn't drive to.work so that was fun!

Still fresh start today ,need to juggle budget or accept I can't and pay less on mortgage this month :( Am off to shops with best friend and baby this morning , will definatly be buying new pj's in primarni to cheer.myself up , don't care if I can't afford it today, and probably a big hot chocolate too :p

Oh that all sounds very frustrating, I would have ended up in tears too I think. Hope you're feeling better about it all now.

I'm fine now thanks, just a wobble :)

Have made a quite drastic descision ( mortgage wise) , I am effectivly not going to pay the correct amount due for the next two months, nov/ dec) we are IO so not officially a problem but of course will set us a bit behind.

I will still make an op of about £1150 ish to hit this years £20k op target. The point is I want to switch to a cash/ current account system instead of the arrrears pay it all by cc system. I am also taking the extra car insuarance cost from this money.

Currently for example if I start using the cc on the 3rd of oct. (Our payday is the 24th each month) the the bill is not payable until 24th dec. So we are actually two months behind. This is fine but I never have any cash really which is tricky sometimes and I would like it all to be clearer, and to start skimming off bits into saving envelopes. Ie. I buy for xmas all year , it will be easier having a physical amount going in and out of a pot each month.

To cater for the lack of full mortgage ops those months, basically the month I knocked off selling eric has vanished , and the monthly payment has gone up from £1835 to £1856.

Hopefully getting back to a mainly cash system will curb wastage a bit more and make it easier to keep the spending app up to date.

This won't help with the mortgage provider probably whom I am trying to get to extend term next year by making constant massive payments regularly, but to be frank I have had enough :p I know they still won't pass us on affordability and I may as well get my head down and try and get the thing paid off in current term whilst being very broke for the next 6 1/2 years, then I don't have to worry what impression I am giving to the building society.

I would like to build a little surplus, rather than always being behind and hopefully going a bit old school with the cash envelopes will help feel more in control. Only difference nowadays is I buy online, my solution is to do that from the current acct. still if i HAVE to and stick the cash in a envelope to be paid back in monthly.

Anyone else run things old style still? :)
