So sorry to hear about your Gran and re-mortgage difficulties.

We too will struggle gaining a new mortgage due to our IVA that was paid off 5 years ago, 1 year after starting it. Our income has doubled, we pass affordability as we are borrowing well below what we could get based on income and have paid everything spotlessly until we entered the IVA and never missed a payment since 2009 but it will follow us around for ever as they ask the question on every application if you have ever entered into an IVA.

    Sorry to witter on :o

Well done to you DD on her award and well deserved prize.

Thats so unfair xspender, I don'r really understand how it works these days. They have done away with formulas to work out affordability - Wasn't it 2.5 x joint income in the old days? now its on an individual basis which seems to have no rhyme or reason to it. They look at some of our variable expenses but then deduct 3x kids according to what they think 3x kids cost. It seems they pick and choose different information according to the weather :(

Sorry to hear about your nan, NG. It sounded sudden, but in many ways it's a blessing, as living in confusion is no way to live at all, so at least she's not suffering anymore.

But even so, it's still a shock for everyone left behind

Thanks Goldiegirl, we are off to make a start clearing the house today, if has to be done within 2 weeks according to the terms of the equity release (I can't even discuss the ER as I will get so cross how they rip people off that are not so clued up financially) Anyway, its a massive job

Dh appears to not be in bed next to me so I am assuming he has gone to work AGAIN. either that or he has another wife and family somewhere :rotfl:

Aside from from the house clearing today will be a good.day as:

    Cleaning done
    Washing/ ironing done
I'm a celeb on tv - the only programme that the kids would all come down to see with us (at least for the first few days!)

  • I hope today doesn't feel too sad. Clearing out a house is a very difficult thing to do. My thoughts are with you. X

Let's hope you will find some things that make you smile today. Xx
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D
  • My thoughts are with you Newgirly on clearing out your Nans house. My Mum passed away 10 weeks ago this week. She lived in the Annex joined onto my house and I have only managed to clear a chest of drawers so far.Miss her so much. Hope it goes better than you were expecting. Xx

    House clearing is very tough.

When I did it at my mum and dad's house, I was able to do it over a few months.

Although it was a rented house, it'd been lived in by members of my family since 1921. So it wasn't only my childhood home and my mum and dad's house since they married, it was also the place where a lot of family history took place.

How I dealt with it was, all clothes etc to charity. All things that I felt were things I wanted to keep I brought home with me, plus some things I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep or not. All these things went in the loft, then I finally cleared them or kept them some years later, when my mind was clearer.

For everything else, I got a house clearer to deal with - it was too much for just us to clear by ourselves
