Birmingham is north where I am from! My Dad is 66 Mum 63 , not that old , he is officially retired from his career but works full time managing his and other peoples commercial / residential properties.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

Personally if my parents had said they wanted to help out my children at uni I'd have taken it - it's a massive amount of debt to be lumbered by
. However I'd have insisted on a lump sum handed over towards tuition fees rather than a weekly 'allowance' - it would feel completely different somehow. As long as they are prepared to do the same for all your children who go to uni, as opposed to just DD as she's the eldest/favourite I think that seems fair.
Alex - to be honest I think you'd be in a far better position mental health wise if your parents hadn't given you such a massive amount of money and you'd had to work in a bar to supplement your income. Look at how it's screwed you up and how you can't get over it. Yes, you might have got a 2.1 rather than a 1st - but what difference would that have really made? Did Mrs LK get a lower degree because she worked (and if she got a 2.1 instead of a 1st has that affected her work prospects in any way?)?A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

I think GG has hit all applicable nails firmly on their heads.
NG - do you ever wonder if £6 cheese sandwiches are part of the reason why you're worried about money?0 -
:rotfl: maybe yes ed
in our defence it was 4pm and we hadn't eaten all day so were desperate and if was the cheapest food we could find there!
Gg yes I completely agree with you, "income" feels very different to a gift of a lump sum.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
So they've gentrified out all the Tesc0 Metros?0

Loving the cheese sandwich discussion!
:o:o Embarrassed to admit it's come as a bit of a shock since I started concentrating on these things that Tco Mtro (and the S 'locals' / W 'little' equivalents) tend to be more expensive than the biggies, and also vary a lot by location.
But the other Mtro … the freebie paper … had a headline a couple of weeks ago that Liddly is at last thinking about proper expansion across London. Will be interesting to see if that happens how the prices work ….Fleabay + Weebuy + Gumfree since started diary 94 items sold, £649.71 clear profit0 -
Best Harrods deal used to be Krispy Kreme because they gave you a free one whilst you waited in the queue. Alas they are gone now.MFW 91 op 2014 £410/1000

Perhaps you're right, Gally. Perhaps I'd not be the screw up failure that I am and by now would have gained everything I wanted by myself. However, that isn't the case and it's not like I can do anything about my life now.
As for my wife, yes she got a lower overall mark though I don't think it's affected her work prospects.2018 totals:
