I now have a very fully stocked airing cupboard, hopefully enough toiletries for the rest of the year, loo rolls never came though so i need to adjust spending so far.

Had a look at the op's, I am on io and am making payments as if I was on repayment plus £60 Extra (£1600 plus £301 interest) if I op £500 of erics money it knocks a month off , 2x months would take £2100. I suppose its the £60 pm thats making the anomoly.

Will probably op nearly all of it (will not go on ebay looking at cars until I have :D)

I feel like an alien when people discuss cars on here, I have never formed an emotional attachement with one in my life! Possibly because I didn't get my driving licence until I was 30 and missed the first car rite of passage etc. ? :)

I have one car (a Triumph GT6) which I've had for many years, hate to think how much money I've spent on it over the years but could not imagine selling it. I honestly think I'd rather have the car than Mrs. K. :o

I cannot even begin to comprehend not driving until 30. I presume you've always lived in cities?

I'll admit it's every car I've owned or even bought to sell. I just like to think they go on to good homes.

Off to look at a uni today for dd, in London though not a million miles away! I visited my parents last night for a quick catch up, my Dad has again said he wants to give dd a monthly income to help with uni. I have already said no once.

For a start if she does go , it will be london and she can commute very easily ( london is best for the work experience that runs along side) she will still work one day a week for us and she can get a student loan for tuition.

I did go further this time and rather bluntly said we have 3 kids that should be treated equally, plus we want to pay for our children, if they really want to help perhaps a nicer way would be to help us out, so we can then pay for what out kids need as we see fit.

They won't do this I am pretty sure :rotfl: I know I sound so ungrateful, but it has been hard times lately and they have not asked if we are managing to pay the mortgage and bills etc. Yet they want to get the kids passports ( er, they have only been abroad once and we are not likely to be going abroad anytime soon!) and pay for uni for dd.

My Dad was also thinking of renting a bit of office space at the factory. I said that I am worried as he gets very stressed out (meaning he likes to be in control) and a factory environment is very different to an office one. Its dirty , sometimes messy , the men work hard and put in extra hours but he would see the untidiness and the noise would drive him mad. He would find it very difficult to see the business run a different way to what he is used to.

I was blunt but not unpleasant at all, my mum agreed I was right and it would drive him mad. My Dad then basically said its a mess, the accounts are a shambles (he has not look at them for well over a year) its not being run like a business, its not being mangaged properly, its unsafe there, and dh won't make tough descisions like he should.

It was an eye opener for DD who was there with me thats for sure! It was very disappointing, dh has got rid of 5 members of staff and sacked one since he took over , cut the wages by 25% this year. People with families whom he has know for nearly 30 years. He can't do much more, he is constantly trying to get new work in , he's in 7 days a week, we are still hanging in there. I am annoyed.

    Rant over.

    They are shs :D

Its a build up of things lately, gran was moved yesterday to a rehab centre , she has a maximum of 3 weeks there and they still won't ring around care homes as they don't have an official diagnosis of dementia yet. They have both types of power of attorney, but not much is happening. :(

Sorry, but I cannot see what your parents are doing wrong with regard to your daughter's education. University is all about living away from home and having a good time. Personally, I can't see how she'll be able to join in with a lot of student activities if she's stuck at home? Why are you wanting to drag your children into your own financial difficulties?

As for your father, perhaps it's not a good idea for him to be renting office space but sometimes someone not directly involved in a business can give a different perspective. Not something to get emotional about.

On a different note I hope something is worked out for your grandmother. :(

When you live near London, the transport links are excellent, so she's not going to miss out on any activities - she'll just get on the tube afterwards to go to her family home, rather than a room she's renting.

NG is just living in a world that most people recognise - money is not infinite and children need to learn that money needs to be earned, and not just handed to them on a plate
