Yes he's gone. Sorry for the delay, I had a bit of a cry
He was bought by a very young rich looking guy who is studying here the moving back home to Dubai and shipping Eric with him :eek:
I wasn't prepared for that! I have written my number in the handbook incase he does sell in the future ( and I have the money).
He did pay £2000, I counted it in front if him which was a bit awkward but I'm glad I did as it was £20 short.
Feeling quite sad now, even looking a big pile of cash is not helping and thats not like me, I just want my Eric backMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
I'm glad it wasn't a time waster.
I was dreading getting rid of Dermot ( my blue Yaris), as I'd had him 13 years and i loved him.
But I got over him quickly ( the next day really:rotfl:). I like Carlos ( my new car)' but I'll never love any car like I did Dermot:o

If he was from Dubai you should have asked for £5,000, he was probably minted! :rotfl:0

It was all odd, loads of texts saying he had to have it, turned up late in the dark / rain. He didn't even look and said he's had a mini before and they are way more expensive to get hold of over there. He didn't ask one question though, people are strange!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

The shipping will cost more than Eric did0

I appreciate that haggling is part of the process (probably why we'll end up using one of these firms that advertise on TV to avoid it in future). So remain optimistic, but be exceptionally suspicious if he seems to be a flake/starts trying to do complicated things involving money transfers etc.
I agree with GG, sounds like you're in justification mode for something shiny. I am not sure whether a Panda can fit 5 people + their luggage. We saw a couple on the road yesterday and they were tiny and quite boxy.
And I thought I was meant to be the throwing money away one on here?? Why anyone would use one of the TV we buy any car companies is beyond me, let alone someone that is usually very good with money. They'll pay a rock bottom price before either selling on their forecourt (Bristol Street Motors is wbac.com IIRC) or flog it through BCA trading under the name CC Trade. I guarantee they won't be the ones losing money, even with the cars sold at auction.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with haggling or selling cars privately. However, far too many people get hung up about the money and settle for less than they would've liked.
For all those that ask me how I can afford to run a 4.2 litre Jaguar on a daily basis unless I need to tow or the weather is bad, I tell them you can buy an awful lot of petrol for the amount of money a modern car depreciates. Whilst I know running a 40 year old car is not for everybody, I do wish people would think about whether buying a depreciating asset is the right thing to do. Having said that, maybe I don't else everyone would want things I'm interested in.Well he is apparently coming tonight at 6.30 to collect and pay cash! Not convinced myself but seems desperate to buy, have made it clear i won't drop under 2k, we shall see. Very strange as he even text at 2am this morning.
The panda is a very ugly car so it was purely as it was a very cheap lease deal that potentially may have been cheaper than keeping the zafira. We don't travel light and couldn't fit the kids and luggage in at centre parcs anywaybut I shall hang on to what we have now for the moment probably.
Alex i am guessing you have bought classic cars unseen? :rotfl:
I've twice bought cars unseen but mainly I'm the one that turns up, offers as little as I can get away with, tell them I've got the cash and will drive away. Most of the time if the car is nice, I drive away in something that I can have some fun with and make a few ££££s for the savings at the end of my ownership.2018 totals:

I've sold cars to people on the continent and never see them. They send over a courier, the courier brings cash and I load the car onto their trailer. Similarly, I've sold cars to people in this country in the dark and pouring rain who quite simply don't have a clue what they're looking at. Often I take them out for a drive and they look terrified, as I will keep to NSL over the lanes in many a 40+ year old car.
When they have a go, they often have to learn what a crash first is. The most amusing are Land Rover Series II / IIa with a crash first and second, very few people know how to properly double declutch these days. :rotfl:2018 totals:

Alex why don't you start selling classic cars as a business?
I can see why people go for modern fuel economy/safety. After many winters with my mum running down the street pushing my dads mgb to get it goingI guess it depends what type of classic car and new car we are talking. The new little suzuki i looked at does 83mpg with no tax, the petrol version, thats a massive saving if you commute.
Most of the cars i have looked at over many years are now really going up in value, even modern cars that are barely classics are shooting up. I would never spend a lot on a new car as you just lose so much, my parents are the ones who buy brand new then change in a year or two (To avoid losing too much money )
Not sure what to do with my eric money, £400 was birthday money ( I know its a lot it was my 40th) so i am tempted to keep a bit back and possibly buy a very cheap or second hand laptop , the rest is mortgage or 0% cc's.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0
