It's been a long few days! Long and short is assessment team came out and said she has to go into hospital, she refused even after the whole family arriving begging etc. she signed a form staring she understood the implications of no treatment (ie. Probably death )

They took blood tests and about two hours later at 10pm they rang mum and said just call an ambulance results are very serious she probably has hours to live and possible kidney damage. She went in and got a bed early yesterday morning, I went back yesterday afternoon and she is perfectly happy in there , other patients and staff are lovely and she should have come in earlier! She's looking better and will be out in a coup,e of days , we need to sort out care in the home for her now.

Today I'm going over to clean her house while she is not there , and try and cook my family an actual meal as they have just had pizza takeout and chips the last few days.

Couldn't sleep last night, so ordered 8 new dining room chairs form Argos in the sale, our others are wooden hard ones and they are old and knackered , a bit like me at the moment :rotfl: very good discount though, just posted it on grabbit very happy :D

Oh dear. I guess at least it has come to a head and your Ma has to accept help now?
  • Good to hear she's getting the right care. It must have been a long old week for you.

    Take care, Tilly x

Hi Newgirly what an awful week you have had. After being in the same situation with my Father who passed away about 5 years agp I know and feel what you are going through. Sadly in my case history is repeating itself as I am now looking after my Mum who has cancer and months to live. Thankfully for me this time it is easier as she lives next door to me in an annex and not an hour away by car where she used to live with Dad. Hope you get your husband to give you a day off work to chill next week! Take care and look after yourself x

What a lovely kind lot you are :) mrs money penny I am so sorry to hear how poorly your mum is, she is very lucky to have you there for her.

Help wise Al, mum defiantly wants the maximum available, she should really have round the clock care but won't move from her home point blank. I'm a bit worried about how often I can go round and help, my mum is probably not a hands on carer type. We will have to just work it out I guess.

Hi Newgirly you may find depending on how much money she has coming in ie pensions etc that she may be entitled to carers coming in for free. We had that for Dad from the council. I know my mums friend had to pay as she had a large amount of savings. When dad got really bad and was at home a carer would stay overnight at the house. They said it was cheaper for them to provide this rather than dad go into a care home. He did go for respite care to give mum a break a couple of times. Dorothy house has been very good to us what with when dad was poorly and they are supporting mum and myself now. Your Nan maybe entitled to attendance allowance which Dorothy house has just helped us with applying for. It's about £80 a week and is money to spend on things like a cleaner to clean for you any jobs you need help with.
If you want to ask anything else that I may know about private message me by all means. Do look after yourself I know what it feels like on many occasion to feel like you are running around on empty. X

Thanks very much for the advice mrs mp, I had not thought Of attendance allowance so it's certainly worth looking into for help with maybe a cleaner. I don't believe she has a lot of savings so social services said it may be possible,to get up to four visits a day. At the Moment we are still at the "I don't need any help" stage. Hopefully she will adjust to all this help, but she is officially the most stubborn lady I have ever met :rotfl:

More hugs from me too! What an alarming time you've all had of it - greent is right, hope you get the chance to switch off and get some recovery time in there. xx

PS. Well done on the chairs :)
