Oh no, you've just made me mentally relive the pain.
It's a shame you could not use the boy's school wear for another few weeks. Do you expect them to shoot up over the summer?
DD is probably playing up a lot more as it's a family business she might get away with it not going.Pots: House £6966/£7100, Rainy day Complete, [STRIKE]Sunny day £0/£700[/STRIKE], IVF £2523/£2523, Car up-keep £135/£135, New car £5000/£5000, Holiday £1000/£1000, MFW #16 £2077/£3120

Hi Peonie, its not pain it's AGONY :rotfl:
THe boys should be able to use their new stuff next term (assuming they don't lose pe kit items again)
DD worked really hard today, so alls well that ends well, plus dh actually paid her for the last two weeks which perked her up a lothopefully no complaints next week.
I am having another cheeky orange weds tomorrow with dd and although its a bit sad we have decided on a third showing of Star Trek againat least we know we will enjoy the film

I had lovely day with dd today, lunch at p*zza express with club card vouchers and then orange weds cinema (star trek again
)
Dh has taken ds1 to see man of steel tonight and they are still there, he will be a nightmare to get up for school in the morning.
The Tent still only has one bid for £100, which is a bit worrying as we paid £350 and everywhere else was selling it for £800 odd last year, what a waste of money , fingers crossed it has a flurry at the end.
I think we may have the loft work get going soon, we have the plans back and it should be 2/3 weeks, but still no paperwork for the neighbours to sign for the party wall act, I will have to chase it up tomorrow. We will be stuck If we don't get the loft cleared in time as dd is having 40 odd kids round for her party in the log cabin in 2 weeks we can't put all our junk in there until afterwards.
10p op made again today, I do feel like the biggest mfw fraud at the moment just making silly op's all the time.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Not sure where this week has gone, its flown by. We finally got a better idea of when the loft work will start, around 5 weeks, so about 5 weeks later than expected
Not much money saving done this week, lots of school stuff bought and a few naughty shops at mr t midweek,I have £10 a day until the 11th July so will have to knuckle down and be a lot more careful.
Family round for a takeaway tonight, but I thin I might cook mine to save a bit ,as its family its not too embarrassingMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Hope you get a fab bidding war on the tent, are you going to use the sale money for something specific so you can think 'we got that with the tent money'. Might make parting with it easier.
I fancy doing the 'shred' but might wait until my 2 week holiday so I'm not working with an aching body!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Hi cath, thanks for popping in
I will wait and see how much we get for the tent, if its a small amount it will pay for the twins trip to thorpe park for their birthday and lunch/petrol. Anything over a bit more substantial and maybe a toilet/sink for the bathroom and if we hit £350 it would pay for the council building reg fees (highly unlikely!)
Current bid £129 , 8 bids , 19 hrs to go :j its almost as exciting as Xmas , not sure I will sleep tonight :rotfl:
Good luck with the shred, it was agony for the first couple of days but has got slightly better, although I must confess to not doing it this morningMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
No more bids yet , I am getting worried it will sell too low:eek:
Today dh is at work again, and we have friends over for lunch, I have well and truly fallen off the wagon since yesterday with the shred and my diet and had lots of wine and curry last night
I need some opinions on something, if you wouldn't mind lovely mfw's. last night my parents were over and dad asked dd if she had a bank acct as they want to start to give dd an allowance direct to her bank. They already give her and the twins pocket money £20 each per month ( they also get the same from us plus phone contracts paid for )
I asked what for and they said just because they want to, I said (thanks obviously) but if they wan to help dd that I would prefer they saved some money on her behalf for her future ( also doing the same for the twins at the same time).
Am I being unfair on them and dd? We are paying her travel to college and she has the chance to earn some money through summer working a day a week with dh. My parents said they will do the same for the boys in the future , as they are 3 yrs younger. I just feel like they're is no need for it and she will just spend it.
It would help to have some other perspectives on this , I have said a very polite no thanks but I know this will probably not be the end of it!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Do you give DD an allowance as well?
I can see why you want to say no if you feel she would fritter it, however over the years I've changed my opinion about taking money from parents. I don't agree with parents funding their children into adulthood (for example if you went running to them every time you got a bill, needed a car etc), but this is different. In the future any money your parents have will be passed down to you and the children anyway, but if they give DD the money now they have the pleasure of seeing her get some use out of it. I basically changed my opinion when my dad was in hospital and insisted on buying me a hat and shoes to wear to Royal Ascot. He was so pleased when I marched into the hospital wearing them :rotfl:. He died before Ascot - I would have ended up with that money anyway (albeit down the line when mum died) but that way he got the pleasure of seeing what he had given me. Sorry, bit morbid and rambling.
Can you reach a compromise? Maybe they will put money away for her driving lessons, then you would all benefit (as I assume you'd end up paying), or buying specific things such as college stuff, good winter coat etc, so it isn't just frittered?

Ah, GG that's lovely your Dad enjoyed seeing you in your new hat and shoes, I bet he loved you marching into hospital wearing them
I have just had a chat with dh on the phone, we for the first time ever are in agreement  we will say no to the monthly allowance and yes (if offered of course) to saving for the future/uni stuff/ driving lessons. ? But In An acct that dd does not have access to.
Dd after some complaints has been earning her own money by working for dh and I think it will not be beneficial for her to be given free money to spend on clothes/ meals out etc. as she sees fit, she will have to earn it.
I am cringing to write this , but my (lovely) 30yr old brother has not had a job for many years and is fully supported at home with my parents with a nice lifestyle , that is not something I ever want for my lot
Just to add, we do give dd £20 a month , so she currently get £40 plus a bl*ckberry n contract paid for , bus faes paid for and I will give her a bit extra for college lunches and buy her equipment and some new clothes , oh, plus we bought her a video camera for working hard in her exams which she will need for her new course.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
