I am sick to death of finding my car damaged

Yep seen as little more than a white good. Many people also can't understand why someone would want to clean a car more than once a month, and think waxing is a waste of time. They are usually pleased if they take the car in for a service and the dealer makes the effort of dragging their stone-enriched sponge across it removing the muck and imparting scratches and swirls galore. Very easily pleased. (Dealer please do not clean my car signs available for download from detailingworld.com).Doesn't help that many people just see a car as an A to B tool, wouldn't care if it happened to theirs and can't understand that other people do care.0 -
I usually park on a huge car park, well away from other cars. Because people are lazy they cluster around the shops and if you're willing to walk 100 yards you'll find about 200 free places without a car in sight. Anyway, the other day I parked as usual, at least 20 spaces from the nearest car, and came back to find some anus had parked beside me with a 4x4, opened their door and dented my rear panel, then left. Unbef***inglievable. I'm tempted to say I wish I'd have caught them, but to be honest I'll take the dent over jail time, as that's what it would have come down to.Yep seen as little more than a white good. But you know what, it's the puzzlement verging on condescension that gets me. I wash my car roughly every 60 miles of motoring, or even 20 in the winter when there's salt down. I do it by hand, wheels and all, soap and wet wax. I dry wax about once every 3000 miles. And people look at me as though I'm a lunatic - Oh, you're obsessed, they say, or It's only a car. As if spending £xx thousands on a car then letting it get covered in grime and fall apart is a logical thing to do.0 -
Often when I come back there will be a car right on either side of mine when there are plenty of empty spaces right near the entrance of the shop and dozens of bays available in the area that I've parked in  It must be some kind of "flock" mentality that humans have.
That must be it!!
Not only do I always get what you and others have mentioned with parking, but also when camping.
Pitch my tent in the middle of a huge site with loads of space all around. Next camper to arrive plonks themselves 3 feet next to me(???):rotfl:0 -

Yep I found the "you'll wash the paint off" mildly amusing until his kids bounced their ball off the car, and then he said it like he thought it was fact and I was doing more damage than the kids
On a par with "No point washing it, it'll only get dirty again." What goes on in these people's minds?0 -

The thing is AB, that if you didn't wash it and keep it sparkly clean, then you probably wouldn't get it dented
It's only over the last 10 years when I've started buying newer cars thaqt I've had these issues, by old bangers never attracted so much as a scratch.
I do actually believe that. I'm sure there's an element in some folks mind when they see a minter and think "soon fix that". Leave in in it's scruffs and they will avoid as if it actually has the plaque.
Sad world at times but some folks do not care. PeriodI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I have a 4x4 which is higher at the back than most cars ,with a nice Tow Bar on the back with towing loops on either side and this seems to scare people away from parking next to me.
I see it like this, i always fold my mirrors in and park away from the crowd and walk that little bit extra, if you decide to park next to me and up close then you have asked for it, you parked next to me, i was here first.
I will not squeeze and rub up against my car to get in, i will rub up against you car, if it gets damaged then its down to you, but i will not scratch it on purpose.
If you cant be bothered to fold your mirrors in, i will just do what ever i have to do get past depending on my mood at the time.
But i say this My tesco's is a hell hole and some people who shop there are the scum of the earth.
All the trolleys are in the car park and you have to grab one as you go past which is a nightmare over the last six months of rain.
They drop litter, swear, scream and shout.
They leave the trolley after they have finished using it and just look at it in wonder as it rolls away, waiting to see what fate has instore for it, whether the wheels will snag and it stops or it rolls on until its progress is stopped by an innocent bystanding car waiting for its proud owner to return and find her wounded body.
Morrisons and sainsburys are a little further away and they have a staff member outside all the time so the carpark is spotless, trolleys are returned and people behave better.0 -

H'mmm, thats how I read it, sounds like you and every other tesco shopper would be better of if you went to Asda

The first & only time I had a brand new car was 9 years ago. A few weeks old, parked outside BF's house we came out to find a huge dent & scrape along the side of the car, damaging door & wing. Total shock & horror. Calmed down, looked closely & spotted red paint on my blue car. A neighbour had a red car & had been parked nearby. He worked just up the road. Off we went to pay him a visit. Found his car with smashed bumper & signs of blue paint.. He saw us & tried to hide. Cornered him & confronted him. He was white & shaking.
Got sorted in the end & we even 'joke' about it with him occasionally much to his extreme discomfort.
What a coward!
For the record, I'd have owned up to it immediately if the boot was on the other foot."Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0
