I totally sympathise with the OP.

When parking in car parks I like to park in the emptiest and furthest corner of the car park so that it doesn't get dings and dents from people inconsiderately bashing their door against my car.

Often when I come back there will be a car right on either side of mine when there are plenty of empty spaces right near the entrance of the shop and dozens of bays available in the area that I've parked in  It must be some kind of "flock" mentality that humans have.

Like others have said I try to avoid parking next to people carriers (typically mums and kids bashing their doors into my car) and sports or three door cars.

Some fool managed to dent the side of my parked car outside my house when we had the snow. They must of been going too fast for the conditions and somehow slid into my car on a straight road. They left no note so its a good job my car is an old banger. I hope they had a nice shiny new car which got damaged when it hit mine. It is things like this that put me off getting a new car!

I've never paid more than £275 for a car, doesn't mean that I dont get !!!!ed off when people ding me though....

That said, someone could have parked an elephant on the bonnet of my old car and I would have pee'd myself laughing - I loved it because it was a complete heap! :D

Last september I had a brand new Auris, had it less than a week, somone had keyed it so hard they even dented the door panel... cost a bomb to repair...

    B*****Ds

That's awful. I'd have left the car there and waited nearby in a separate car until the low lives inevitably returned to admire their handywork. I would then have picked up my small but still substantial fire extinguisher and...

If the car park is busy and I can't find a space I just park in front of someone like you with no qualms whatsoever.

I don't do it when the car park is busy. Just as well we don't live in the same country ;)

Perhaps taking a large roll of bubble wrap everywhere we go would be the answer
