I booked a package with Media Travel but the Ryanair details arrived online separately and I booked in online on Tuesday. We are due to fly to Spain on Saturday morning.
If flight canceled, will we be entitled to any help or compensation as Hotel is booked for 5 days and all cost including transfers paid to Media Travel.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Someone else should know more than me but I think you should be covered if I understand you correctly - did you 'book in online' or 'check in online' on Tuesday?
  • You should get a refund for the whole trip if the flight is cancelled, I think. It mainly comes under a different EC directive though.

Do you happen to know what that EC directive is? As I mentioned, the agent i spoke to was of no use and suggested that because TC were out of pocket so should i be!?!?!?!?!?

Update on the opening of Scottish airspace at midnight - it's for a few turboprop flights between Scotland, the Western Isles & Northern Ireland as many of the flights are done at relatively low altitude. UK and Irish airspace will not open before midday UTC Friday 16th April

I booked by phone with Media Travel.
I checked in online and printed off Boarding Passes. Who should cover, Media Travel or Ryanair? I had no dealings with Ryanair but the request to check in came direct from Ryanair. Thank you.
  • I am stranded in Naples now as all my flights back to the UK tomorrow have been cancelled. BA have indicated that the next flight available (hopefully) will be Sunday. I have managed to book an extra 2 nights accommodation but would like to be clear of my rights before visiting the airport tomorrow. As I understand from previous posts we should be entitled to our accomm and food refunded - even though we had not yet booked in - am I right??

    Thanks

Good advice on this thread. Thanks to all.

I have a slightly different query.

I am presently stuck in Tenerife. Was due to fly back tonight, but saw flight was cancelled at about noon.

I booked through an agent (TravelRepublic) who booked what they call a "tailor made holiday", which included flights with Easyjet, hotel, car parking and transfers in Tenerife. so they booked the whole holiday for me, but it wasn´t a pre-packed package!

When I contacted them and asked them to let me know what I had to do to get back to the UK, they responded:

Thank you for your request. We have checked Easyjet's system. The next available flight is Thursday 22nd April departing at 12.40 arriving back in Manchester at 16.55 flight 8704. Please advise us if you would like to transfer to this flight. All items are subject to change and availability. You will need to pay the hotel locally to extend the stay. Unfortunately the transfer provider cannot ammend the transfer booking so a you would need to arrange a local transfer. For the car parking any extra charges will need to be paid directly to the car park when collecting your vehicle. Kind Regards Travel Republic

Now, I have just checked, and there are EJ flights back to Bristol next Tuesday, which would be a bit better, or I could get on a charter flight back to LGW next Wednesday, which might be more convenient, but I assume would mean me just getting a refund for the EJ flight to offset the additional flight and accommodation costs.

    But my main question is:

What should I expect TravelRepublic to do for me? As they are my agent, shouldn´t they be sorting this out for me, even though it isn´t a "package" holiday? (even if they should, I´m not sure I´d trust them to do it, after their initial response).
  • Hi Everyone!

I hope someone can help with some advise... I'm due to be flying out to the Maldives on Sunday and I wanted to clear a few things up. Firstly, I booked it through purpleholidays but they claim they're only acting as agents and Cosmos is my supplier - do I take up any issues with Cosmos or does the liability lie with purpleholidays?

Secondly, Cosmos claim that if the delay is greater than 12 hours I can claim a full refund for my holiday. Is 12 hours correct or is the 5 hour clause which applies to flights the real truth? I've looked through various websites but it's difficult to find anywhere that details your rights in case of delay when on a package holiday.

    Thanks for any help!

    Matt

It's not actually an EC directive (sorry) but the Package Holiday Regulations 1992. They provide that the agent providing the package holiday is responsible for alternative flights to your original destination, an alternative holiday of the same or superior quality or a full refund.

The airline also has to comply with the EC Regulations even if you are a package holiday customer.

If you booked through Purple holidays then I would guess you go through them, as they are the person you handed the money to, have you got travel insurance, (just thinking if Purple holidays play up, you have the travel ins company to fall backon).

Its 12 hours delay for cancellation of a flight, the 5 hr rule is to do with food and drink,

from memory (I may be wrong), theres 3 levels of time limits, drinks limit think is 2 hr delay, 5 hr delay is food and drink, 8hrs delay, food drink and bed, and 12 hours is a cancellation.
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Easyjet is responsible for taking care of you in this instance I think. Contact them - they should rebook you free of charge and MUST provide you with accommodation/food until they can get you home.
