24 airports in France closing including CDG in Paris..
  • My parents were due to fly Belfast to East Mids today; they didnt turn up to airport but went and booked a ferry over and will have to do a 5.5hr journey driving to final destination;
my question is; BMI is meant to re-route you arent they?? By whatever means but they've gone ahead and independently booked their own ferry tickets; where do they stand on refund?? Its only a one way flight as they have Ryan Air return sector from different airport.

Think because they have re routed themselves they cant get refunded?? Plus cause they've driven over they cant even use the return Ryan air flights next thurs now; what a nightmare
Ryanair is very hard to get refunds on at the best of times. Any helpful info would be MUCH appreciated as they are not well up on how to claim and will end up leaving it so I am trying to help

[STRIKE]Yeah they've shot themselves in the foot by not turning up to the airport. They might still get a refund out of BMI if they try to avoid mentioning that they didn't turn up.

RE Ryanair I have no idea how to even start with trying to get a refund out of them, I don't envisage them having much luck though.

Edit: Do BMI have online check-in? If they checked in online they should be able to get a refund no sweat.
    [/STRIKE]

Second Edit: On closer examination of the relevant section of the EC Regulation they should actually be covered and be able to get a refund within 7 days in any case.

Fellow on BBC Weather said the ash was at about 20,000 feet. Can't short haul routes simply operate below that altitude - is this a case of the health and safety brigade justifying themselves again!!!

Oh - yes I agree nuke Iceland!!

Would you want to be in a plane flying close to volcanic ash that could instantly shut the engines down

haha, pressed 'thanks' when I meant to reply...

Jet aircraft don't operate very effectively below 20,000 feet! In any case they can't be sure that there is no debris below that altitude and some of this ash could include chunks of sharp glass-like material, not so good for planes.

It's only when you have booked a package that you should avoid making your own arrangements. Your parents will be able to reclaim the BMI fare.

Quite a lot of what has been reported by ALL news channels is simply wrong.

I've just had confirmation my flight is cancelled tomorrow at 11am. So I've just changed my flight to the 4.50pm one in the hope that it isn't cancelled and something happens between now and then that means I can fly!

Rome Update. Managed to get a hotel for 3 nights. Overnight train to Paris on Sunday, Paris eurostar Monday morning...............

There was no guarantee of a flight according to Jet2 which is fair enough. At no time were they informed of the airlines's obligations apart from refund or book on another flight.....................

    Joy.
