Rome Update. Managed to get a hotel for 3 nights. Overnight train to Paris on Sunday, Paris eurostar Monday morning...............
There was no guarantee of a flight according to Jet2 which is fair enough. At no time were they informed of the airlines's obligations apart from refund or book on another flight.....................
Joy.
Tut tut tut... I think a complaint to the Air Transport Users Council would be in order. They certainly should have been given food & accommodation till Jet2 could get them onto another flight, however long that would have taken!0 -
Some restrictions on UK airspace will stay in place until 1300 BST on Friday because of ash from a volcano in Iceland, air traffic controllers say. But flights from Northern Ireland and the Western Isles of Scotland to and from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Prestwick may be allowed from 0100 BST.
North Atlantic traffic to and from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Prestwick and Belfast may also be allowed.
Air traffic control service (Nats) said its next review would be at 0230BST.0 -
Hi everyone,
i am flying to Malaga on tuesday, well, if everything is ok. We did not buy travel insurance yet... do you think that if we do, in the event that we can not travel because of the ash problem, we will be covered ?Mejor morir de pie que vivir toda una vida de rodillas.0 -
No, you will not be covered - As it was a known event at the time you purchased your travel insurance0

They are European regulations not the rest of the worldFor information to all those affected by this situation the airlines are obliged to 'care for' their pax no matter what the circumstances or reasons for the cancellation or delay.
This means that passengers are entitled to meals, refreshments and accommodation if an overnight stay or stays become necessary together with travel to/from that accommodation. 2 phone calls/faxes/emails should also be offered FOC.
In addition to the 'right to care' airlines are obliged to refund your fare or re-route you (at your option) in the event of cancellation and after 5 hours in the case of delay.
Full regulation here: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/...4R0261:EN:HTML.
Trust this is useful.

Yes, a European carrier flying from outside the EU into the EU is covered by the European regulations - so you are covered!0 -
I have a match break arranged via Thomas Cook this weekend which includes accomodation and match ticket only - i have arranged seperate flights which i know can be refunded but as per Thomas Cook Sports Cancellation Policy below -does anyone think that i am covered for any refund etc? As the TC agent I spoke to today was MOST unhelpful as my flights havent officially been cancelled YET and i can therefore still make this booking.
Thomas Cook Sport will refund customers all monies paid to us for the purchase of selected football travel arrangements should they be prevented from attending or travelling to any football event due to:
i) A Ban on travel as a direct result of an official directive from either, FIFA, UEFA, a member Football Association, government, local government, police authority or other official organisation
ii) Terrorism occurring resulting in a Civil Aviation Authority (or international equivalent) Shut Down which occurs during the period of insurance and is beyond the control of the Assured.
Any help would be greatly appreciated0 -
I booked a package with Media Travel but the Ryanair details arrived online separately and I booked in online on Tuesday. We are due to fly to Spain on Saturday morning.
If flight canceled, will we be entitled to any help or compensation as Hotel is booked for 5 days and all cost including transfers paid to Media Travel.
Any advice would be appreciated!0 -

[STRIKE]You should get a refund for the whole trip if the flight is cancelled, I think. It mainly comes under a different EC directive though.[/STRIKE] Sorry - misread - see below.0
