FLIGHT DISRUPTIONS: Volcano ash from Iceland hits UK flight plans

My parents were supposed to fly with Ryanair today...
On the website it allows you to change your flying out date, but not return! Tried ringing - no chance of getting through.
So applied for a refund online, am I going to get all the money back or will they take a charge out of it?0 -
Our flight to Glasgow with Easyjet has been canx due to volcanic dust, on the website it is showing as canx and I am given a choice of a refund or amend flight, when I click the refund link it takes me through various pages until I reach one that asks me to click a link for online refund request, when I click it says "access is denied". No matter how many different routes I take it always comes back to access is denied, I've even tried phoning but there is no answer - surprise - is anyone experiencing these problems or does anyone know how to get round this0

I have spoken to Media Travel and they have said if flight 11.45am tomorrow is cancelled, we will be automatically refunded by Ryanair even though they booked it with my card. They say they are not responsible for Hotel or Transfers and we will have to claim via insurance. We were unable to obtain insurance due to a pre existing medical condition. I have told them they are responsible as this is a package holiday and I have asked for a Supervisor to call me, which I think is highly unlikely. Is there anything else I can do?0

This link works for me on easyjet http://easyjet.custhelp.com/app/utils/login_form/redirect/ask/session/L2F2LzEvc2lkLzc3b2QteFpq/kw/refund/r_id/166
However, any problems are probably caused by shear volume of traffic on the website. All airline and airport websites are probably seeing huge demand at the moment so its probably just a case of the servers can't cope rather than any conspiracy of easyjet trying to dodge refunds. Just keep trying or leave it for a few hours and try again later.
Helpful hint: people here tend to respond and try and help no matter what size or colour your front is

Unfortunately I don't think this is a package holiday. It may have been sold all from one website but it is not a package holiday, there is no tour operator involved. Media travel are just an agent that have booked you some low cost flights and then separately arranged you a hotel and transfer. Its no different than if you had done these separate items yourself.
As cityboy has stated Ryanair are responsible for either transfering you to an alternative flight, or refunding you for any cancelled flight. (And I wouldn't believe media travel in saying this will happen automaticaly, I would visit their website and see what ryanair say). They will also be liable for costs of accomodation during any delay if you transfer to a later flight as per EU directions.
Any separate hotel and transfer costs you will have to take up with Media Travel.0 -
My parents booked a holiday from London to Seville with Thomas Cook flying with Vueling. They were due to fly back yesterday, and were told today by Vueling that they wouldn't get a plane back to London until Wednesday so accepted a flight to Amsterdam. Thomas Cook are apparantly nowhere to be seen and don't seem interested, so my parents have been paying a fortune on accomodation etc, and will have to pay for their own flights from AMS to the UK. Should Thomas Cook be paying for the accom, extra flight? Thanks0

Hi my parent are currently in singapore having travelled with singapore to australia and back. I have been told by the airline that they will not cover any of the costs of hotel or food as it was not their fault. From what i have read on this site that does not seem to be correct. Or do they just claim off the insurance.
I am hoping that someone can clarify the situation for me nad point me in the right direction of a website that shows what law or policies apply to this situation.
thanks0 -

Is Thomas Cook acting as a tour operator or just a travel agent which has sold you a flight and possibly accommodation as well? If it is the former and your parents have booked a package they should be on to Thomas Cook insisting that they make arrangements for their return hame and for accommodation and subsistence in the mean time. If your parents make their own arrangements without giving the package operator a reasonable opportunity to look after them they might have to pay themselves for their own arrangements. If it is the latter, then the airline, Vuelling, has a duty of care - including accommodation/food and drink - and a duty to transport them back. They should not really accept Amsterdam as an alternative.0 -

I think it is probably as a travel agent as there as no transfers, just flights and accommodation. To be honest I think it is unlikely the flight to AMS will happen anyway. I have told them to keep receipts for everything anyway.
Thanks apt and cityboy0 -
