Whats the difference between a Volcano and Cheryl Cole?
One is still blowing Ash

How about someone caught up in this starts a new thread, "insurance companies - who paid and who refused". Then next year when we all buy travel insurance again we'll all know which ones to boycott won't we. It would be useful if the first post kept a running total too, to make it easy to see the good guys and the bad guys.0

Ryanair now extends flight cancellation till Wed at 13:00, They have also added your rights and they state:
If your flight is cancelled, you are entitled to the rights set out below except when:
you are informed of the cancellation at least two weeks before the scheduled time of departure; or
you are informed of the cancellation between two weeks and seven days before the scheduled time of departure and are offered re-routing, allowing you to depart no more than two hours before the scheduled time of departure and to reach your final destination less than four hours after the scheduled time of arrival; or
you are informed of the cancellation less than seven days before the scheduled time of departure and are offered re-routing, allowing you to depart no more than one hour before the scheduled time of departure and to reach your final destination less than two hours after the scheduled time of arrival; or
(in respect of any ‘Right to Compensation’) we can prove that the cancellation is caused by extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken by Ryanair, including but not limited to political instability, safety and security reasons, weather disruption, labour disputes or failure or delay of air traffic control facilities.
Is this going to affect all abroad who think hotels will be paid or is this just another editted version of what should stand in eu rules?
Just another edited version of the EC Regulation. 'Right to Compensation' is excluded due to the volcano, but 'Right to Care' (which covers hotels etc) is not.0 -
Just a word that the ferries from Le Havre & Caen are less congested than those from Calais, may be worth a look for people having problems getting back to the UK!0

Cancelled as expected! Disappointed but not so bad for me because it was a work trip, I've not lost money as the flights and hotel are being refunded.
However - I think Pelican_eats_pigeon and Cityboy should be recognised for the excellent work they are doing on here giving good advice to people. I've been referring to this website several times a day to try to get a handle on what's happening and both P_eats_P and Cityboy have been far more informative than any other site I've found.
On behalf of us all, many many thanks. :T
Hope you all get home/away soon.Pelican_eats_pigeon wrote: »If I were the airline I would be looking at the possibility of getting as many pax as possible with this type of booking onto transalantic flights straight from Scotland instead... Who knows if they a) have any such flights or b) have the resources to think through all such combinations, though.
I give it about 60:40 positive on whether you can fly personally. But that is pure guesswork.0 -

My flight never made it out from prestwick on Thurs night, I have now cancelled flights but lost all hotel monies (£379) paid to low cost holidays , small loss to some others abroad if some airlines do get away with handing this version of rules to customers at the airport.
The unedited version of the regulation straight from the European Commission website can be found here:
http: //eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2004:046:0001:0007:EN:PDF
(remove the space between the http and colon, I'm not allowed to post links!)
If you read it closely, it makes reference to "extraordinary circumstances" in regard to compensation, but this does not apply to passengers' right to care under article 9. Ryanair, Easyjet and whoever else are handing out edited versions of this are simply trying to hoodwink us with their contrived BS.0 -
I just found out that my flight has been cancelled making us well and truly stuck in Los Angeles.
An email from AF says
Dear Madam, dear Sir, We inform you that the flight 19/04 LOS ANGELES PARIS is cancelled. We thank you for your understanding.
I would be more understanding of they offered an alternative or tell me what to do next.
I cant help feeling from their short message that we have simply been dumpedIWasLookingBackToSeeIfSheWasLookinBackToSeeIfIWasLookinBackAtHer.....0 -
UK Airspace closed until at least 7.00pm tomorrow.

Thanks to Cityboy for all the helpful info he has posted. It looks as if we are going to get stuck in Antigua. I've been following the thread every day (when the internet is working here!), and although the situation isn't dire for us, (we can stay on in our accommodation, extend car hire, have credit cards etc), I have a question.
We're due to fly back to Gatwick tomorrow with BA. Today's flight has been cancelled, and the advice, via a message on the answerphone, is to stay in your hotel/accommodation, and to ring, on the day of your flight, to rebook. Nothing to indicate if BA are footing the bill for the extra days. I haven't spoken to a person yet, the phones are red hot with the people rebooking for todays cancelled flight.
We do a 'build it yourself' holiday, booking flights with Airmiles, renting an apartment & car, and shop locally for groceries. My question is, if I can claim from BA for living expenses, I will have a bill for the apartment and car hire, but what would be considered a reasonable daily sum for 3 people's groceries? We don't tend to eat out too much cos it's expensive, so no restaurants receipts. Would it be reasonable to buy the food needs each day and send in till receipts? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
Just managed to rebook for 27th April, so staying an extra week. Any advice on daily meal allowance figures please?0 -

We're living day to day checking the internet every few hours. Our friends think we're 'lucky' to be stuck in Florida, the reality is a little different.
Mine think I'm lucky too.
'Make the most of it!' absolutely impossible. Lonely, bored, spending spending spending.0
