FLIGHT DISRUPTIONS: Volcano ash from Iceland hits UK flight plans

Hi to everyone, from a rainy Florida,
Our dream holiday has turned to nightmare. My wife had to return early to the uk last
Monday due to the tragic death of her sister. My three children and I have remained
in the usa to make what we can of the rest of our trip. We have yet to break the sad news to our children.
Our return flight is booked for Tues 1700hrs. It now seems highly likely that this
will be canceled. I have a few personal questions, if anyone could be as kind to help
out.
Our insurance was a 'single trip - premier plus' policy, taken out with direct travel insurance. This policy was for cover upto 21st Apr 10 - the day of our expected return.
Will we still be covered by policy after that date.
We have been told by the property management company that the villa we
are staying at will be available - would insurance cover this cost?
Thanks for any help0 -
My airline? All the airlines? Anyone with any sort of control who would like people to get home?0

Finally got back from france, took train from paris to calais (cost £220 for a family of 4) managed to get to ferry after being fleeced for £45 by taxi.
P & O then fleeced us of £60 approx each (including kids) to be foot passengers, after queing for 4 hrs to get tickets that is !!
Finally getting ferry at 3 am to dover.
(Ferries taking foot passengers at night, they dont normally, nice little earner though !)
Eventually got train home to nottingham only to be charged a further £155 , oh and not forgetting the uk taxi driver who added a £6 surcharge(lets call it a volcano bonus !!)
Managed it all in 20 hrs to arrive home skint0 -
er.... yes still nightmare. i am guessin that you dont have children. i offer my sympathy for your nightmare as i do see and care about events that occur further than the end of my own nose.
I didn't mean to come across as arrogant as I just did, I do realise that in this situation a baby would be horrible, but in comparison to how it could be... I would give an awful lot to be in your position if I could be. Take the coach.0 -
How long would it take by boat from the west coast of USA? 2 weeks maybe (I dont know) and of course there isnt enough boats/ships sitting around doing nothing, having said that it may turn out to be the only optionMy airline? All the airlines? Anyone with any sort of control who would like people to get home?0 -

You've got a 9 year old, so that is three seats, you should be able to have one adult, one child and the baby sitting in a double coach seat. Its not terrible and more preferable than sleeping on an airport floor if your money ran out while waiting for a flight.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Expedia I reckon. I recently was dealing with the airline and expedia.com. In the end it was the airline that ok'ed the refund and expedia that made the refund. Since you paid expedia they have to make the refund. But I think the airline issues a credit back to expedia to fund your refund.
I'd be interested to read how you get on with expedia.co.uk (which I assume is who you booked with). All the different countries have different expedia's. Expedia.com customer service is total c--p. Look them up on google and you'll find many blogs about how bad they are. I wonder is Expedia.co.uk the same? All I can say is that it is a good job I use a discount phone service. One call to expedia USA was 70 minutes! Most were near an hour and there were a lot of calls.
I booked with Expedia and called Air France who confirmed I have to get a refund from Expedia. Wasted loads of money calling 0871 226 0808 (was on hold for 2 hours yesterday). Someone mentioned it was better to call 020 7019 2000 and select option 2 for customer services. Good luck - I'm still on hold too!0
