Just to say on the Cathay Pacific flight they were stating if you wanted a refund you would receive the full amount with no fees. I had to request a refund for my wife and clearly stated FULL REFUND.

Hi Poolie - good news - my brother got a full refund - looks like a temp who was drafted in - gave him the wrong advice!

Has anyone managed to get throught to Expedia? What number did you use if you did? I have been trying on 020 7019 2000 but then i get a bit confused on which option to use on the menu - ive booked flights and hotels through expedia and they are on the same itinary - does that count as a package?

I was on hold for an hour and half last night and been on hold for 20minutes so far today! I know they are going to be having a huge number of calls but i dont want to be on hold to the wrong department!

Cheers for this number - it looks like it is the right one - as it connects to Customer Services - same as if you dial 0871 226 0808 (watsed enough money already on that number!)

Why have you not contacted BA?

Their phone number directs you to the website which I am on permanantly! I did e-mail them on the first day and have now had a response with an address to contact on my return. So I will do as Cityboy tells me and keep all receipts and send them on our return to Scotland

My mum and brother are also stranded in Barcelona. She phoned Ryanair today, and after holding for 40 minutes they said they will not pay for accommodation - basically a lie, they have to under European law. She was also told to fax her flight receipts to Ryanair for a refund which was slightly ridiculous as they are stuck in a Spanish hotel and barely have access to the internet let alone a fax! Keep your receipts and send copies of them to Ryanair once you get home via recorded delivery and they must reimburse you.

That is ridiculous, though exactly what I expected from them. I just don't know what to do in terms trying to book a new flight or whether just head to the airport once the flights start leaving, though I dare say it will be absolute pandemonium at that point.

    Ps thanks for the response.

Are you kidding me? You have been told you can get on a coach, and 30 hours later you will definitely be home, with a, comparably, minor inconvenience of having your baby on your knee, and you think THAT is the ultimate nightmare? Try being stuck, indefinitely, 3500 miles away from home with ABSOLUTELY NO WAY of getting back, throwing money at hotels and food for two people daily, with no guarantee that you're going to get your money back from your insurer, no clean clothes, no help!

    Yeah, keep mulling it over.

Totally agree with you on this one. We were fortunate enough to get back into the villa we had for 2 wks, but we still had to pay £1000 for car hire and have to eat. We're living day to day checking the internet every few hours. Our friends think we're 'lucky' to be stuck in Florida, the reality is a little different.

Hi all, nothing urgent here, just looking for a wee bit of advice. Got flights booked, no accom (its a timeshare that we got as a prezzie for a week), due to fly out to tenerife from prestwick on friday 23rd returning friday 30th.

Now people here saying that flights likely to off till 23rd and thats just now, could be worse in a few days.

Question is if I ask for a refund now and it turns out that the returning flight ie home on the 30th actually goes, will i get my money back on the returning flight or just on the flight out. Also can I ask for a refund on a flight that hasnt been cancelled yet? Or do I have to wait until Ryanair officially cancel it?

    Thanx in advance

Thanks to Cityboy for all the helpful info he has posted. It looks as if we are going to get stuck in Antigua. I've been following the thread every day (when the internet is working here!), and although the situation isn't dire for us, (we can stay on in our accommodation, extend car hire, have credit cards etc), I have a question.

We're due to fly back to Gatwick tomorrow with BA. Today's flight has been cancelled, and the advice, via a message on the answerphone, is to stay in your hotel/accommodation, and to ring, on the day of your flight, to rebook. Nothing to indicate if BA are footing the bill for the extra days. I haven't spoken to a person yet, the phones are red hot with the people rebooking for todays cancelled flight.

We do a 'build it yourself' holiday, booking flights with Airmiles, renting an apartment & car, and shop locally for groceries. My question is, if I can claim from BA for living expenses, I will have a bill for the apartment and car hire, but what would be considered a reasonable daily sum for 3 people's groceries? We don't tend to eat out too much cos it's expensive, so no restaurants receipts. Would it be reasonable to buy the food needs each day and send in till receipts? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
  • I really feel sorry for all of you who are caught up in this awful situation, my boss is currently stuck in san Javier (Murcia) spain and was meant to fly home today with ryaanair - they have now told him the earliest flight home is Weds 28th April!! So he is stuck there and we all have extra work to do for another 10 days to cover him.
Good luck to you all and I hope everyone gets home safely,
