Thanks to Cityboy for all the helpful info he has posted. It looks as if we are going to get stuck in Antigua. I've been following the thread every day (when the internet is working here!), and although the situation isn't dire for us, (we can stay on in our accommodation, extend car hire, have credit cards etc), I have a question.

We're due to fly back to Gatwick tomorrow with BA. Today's flight has been cancelled, and the advice, via a message on the answerphone, is to stay in your hotel/accommodation, and to ring, on the day of your flight, to rebook. Nothing to indicate if BA are footing the bill for the extra days. I haven't spoken to a person yet, the phones are red hot with the people rebooking for todays cancelled flight.

We do a 'build it yourself' holiday, booking flights with Airmiles, renting an apartment & car, and shop locally for groceries. My question is, if I can claim from BA for living expenses, I will have a bill for the apartment and car hire, but what would be considered a reasonable daily sum for 3 people's groceries? We don't tend to eat out too much cos it's expensive, so no restaurants receipts. Would it be reasonable to buy the food needs each day and send in till receipts? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

How do you include the car hire?

Not asking about claiming for car hire, know that is not possible. I am asking what peeps think is a reasonable daily amount to claim for meals. If you go to a restaurant you have a bill for $75 US for dinner, so you can send it in, but eating at home is less quantifiable.

All I can think is to keep all receipts for food that you buy at supermarkets/ takeawys etc as your evidence of costs.

    bit of advice folks please

we are due to fly out from Birmingham to Weeze (Dortmund) on Friday.23.April

now assuming this gets cancelled (and I hope it does not)

I already have pre-booked car parking at Birmingham Int Airport
    also
I have a hotel booked, this is the Hoilday Inn (booked via the Friends & Family rate, featured on the popular thread, on this forum)

now the hotel states this is non refundable, however due to the circumstances etc etc

can anyone shed any light on the car parking or the hotel situation

    thanks in advance

Anything over £25/day or local equivalent would certainly be considered excessive for food but I would keep it as cheap as possible, as you will want to present yourself in the best possible light in case of any dispute.

It sounds like you are in a position to supermarket shop for main meals in a way that people staying in hotel rooms are not, so obviously £25/day would be considered grossly excessive in your case. I would get supermarket receipts and consume cheap/mid-range fairly standard brands or supermarket own brands, just as Mr Average would do!

I think you are a bit stuck in these circumstances to be honest. If you have insurance it is worth checking to see if they are one of the companies paying out.

We were due to fly home from Orlando to London last Thursday but our flights with BA were cancelled, it cost us around £100 in telephone costs to BA to rebook flights for next Tuesday 20th.

    ?

I'm not sure why it cost you anything to phone BA to rebook. As I understand it, you're stuck in the USA. The number for BA within the US is a freephone number.
In case you need to call them again here is the number
    1-800-AIRWAYS
    1-800-247-9297

As they provide a freephone number within the USA I don't think it will be easy to claim back £100 in telephone costs.

My 7 year old daughter is in Florida with her grandparents and due to fly home tomorrow. I've really missed her and got everything crossed that we get gale force winds tomorrow to blow it all away :(

Flight was cancelled obviously. They were due to fly to Toronto and then onto Heathrow, but Canada Air have let them stay in Florida as they can stay with family.

They are booked onto the next available flight which is 1st May . They have been told to call in 3 days to try and get on an earlier flight, but not much hope at the moment.
