  • We are inviting my sister in laws Parents but only because we get on with them very well.. I have never met my other brothers in laws and wouldn't dream of inviting them. Saying that, OHs brother did seem to get the huff when we explained that his wifes Mother wasn't invited (neither of us have even met her before)... Dig your heels in. Its your wedding!!

i think it depends how well you know them and if you get on with them...but if you wouldnt exchange christmas cards with them....then they dont need an invite.

some families are very close and in laws come as part and parcel of the package but TBH its not normally the case...and certainly not in our family!

Wow, I would say that's not a thing - I've never even heard of it.

Also, don't listen to anyone who says you 'should' invite certain people to your day... I work on the following principle: do we want them there, and/or are we going to be bothered, if they're upset at not being invited.

Basically, it's what matters to you and your OH, not to anyone else.

  • I'm a bridezilla and my confession is I am trying my hardest not to annoy people with wedding stuff! I know its a year and a half away but when you are on the otherside of the world, its really really difficult to organise everything yourself!

I've decided I don't give a fluff about the guest list and whoevers invited is it. I'm not telling anyone until the invites go out! lol!

  • Tatabubbly when do you get married - I think I'm in the same boat as we get married June 20th Next year and it's a really odd line to tread between getting excited about each thing you book and/or decide on and boring people to death with wedding talk! I managed to unintentionally try on a wedding dress over Chrismas (was in a boutique I visited with future MIL and I'd been looking at it on the interent - They had one in my size and no appointements for the afternoon) and it seems to have geared me up in full anooying wedding mode again!
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?
  • I'm the same, we don't get married until october next year, and it's all wedding talk, emailing venues, photographers, dress shops, looking at invitation ideas online. But I justify it that by being organised and planning so far ahead, not only are we spreading the cost, but we're spreading the stress and pressure!

The florist I've been to is really reasonable, I was pleasantly surprised. So I'm doing minimal flowers and more candles and ornamental bird cages instead. That way I can either keep them or resell.

Steph I totally agree! Ugh, florists. I've pulled the card that I suffer TERRIBLY from hayfever (slight exaggeration, but hey) and don't want red puffy eyes on my wedding day... so no flowers for us! :-D am planning to decorate the church with fabric and ribbons (and maybe some fake flowers if I MUST).

Still, my future MIL doesn't seem to understand that it is actually possible to have a wedding without flowers.

I've been thinking I will probably have a bouquet, but actually, I'm now thinking that even that could be done without! I love having fresh flowers in the house, I and am definitely a flower person, but I think what I object to is the insistence that you HAVE to have flowers because it's a WEDDING... um, no, if it's a wedding, the only thing I actually NEED is the right man to marry... everything else is technically surplus to requirements.

I am lucky as well louise as our florist also owns the marquee company we are using and manages the venue we have booked (and the hog roast company we have booked) - she is very reasonable and has even suggested ways for us to save money/ make it go further.

For instance - bird cages which have removable displays - they then double as gifts, one person on each table will be able to take one home which I love. We did this at my brothers wedding and it was nice to have the reminder afterwards.

We're not having a lot of flowers as I think its all a bit pointless. Sticking mainly to some on the tables, bouquets for me and adult bridesmaid (a small bouquet of babys breath for the kids as in my experience they break/lose them after an hour or so anyway!) and button holes :o
