Please stop shouting, Look at what you pick up and put in your trolley, £200 per week at Tesco seems a bit excessive inless you've got 15 kids to feed.

Not that its anyones business how much OP spends on groceries or how many kids they have! how rude!
Anyway, for me, i wouldnt even need to check my reciept. I go around adding every single penny into the calculatoe on my phone, and if its a penny out when im through checkout, then i want to know why! It may seem over the top, but, i go in knowing how much i can spend, and can budget as i go arounf the shop. If im in the last isle and i dont have enough left for an "essential", i can take one of my "luxuries" before i get to checkout to save myself the embarrasment. If im in the last isle and i have more left than i anticipated, i can treat myself to extra luxuries! (the "last isle" in my tesco is the frozen dessert isle!!! :j
Everyone who thanks me when ive helped will get a 5% share when I win this weeks Euromillions......:p

There have been several instances of SELs mysteriously disappearing when Tesco staff go to check them by themselves - always best to accompany them!

This happens in Asda too. or they come back and tell you you picked up the wrong offer. I now take a photo on my phone of any special offers I buy. Also saves the Show me where you got this trek round the store.

I was about to post this when I discovered there was already a discussion going on.

I have been regularly overcharged on "special offers" by my (Edinburgh) ASDA for years. Previously, I always got an immediate refund, however, in March, I discovered they had changed their policy on the customer service desk and were no longer offering refunds between midnight and 7am. I work permanent night-shift and shop after work so I wasn't happy to be told, on a Saturday morning, I would have to wait 30 minutes to get my money back, given it was their mistake just a couple of minutes earlier.

I asked to speak to the (night-shift) manager and he was, genuinely, sorry he couldn't give me a refund. He also used the usual excuse that price changes are the responsibility of the back-shift and nothing to do with the night-shift. I explained I wasn't happy being treated like a second-class customer when they were open 24-hours, 7-days-a-week or that their continual overcharging, in effect, was fraud. He agreed to inform the (day-shift) manager of my concerns. I also sent a letter recording the event and explained I would lodge an official complaint, with Trading Standards, (copied to ASDA HQ) if I didn't get a written reply from him.

Waiting until my deadline was nearly up then sending his answer 2nd-class post, over a Bank Holiday weekend, proved the store manager wasn't the "sharpest tool in the box"! However, he did confirm that refunds were available 24-7 and, also sent a £10 gift card because of the inconvenience and delay I was caused in explaining the situation to his manager. The letter from HQ, Leeds, simply assured me they were doing everything possible to prevent this happening again!

I was impressed that Trading Standards promptly visited the store. They were also assured "There were systems in place to stop this." but asked me to take a note of the date, time, product and person I spoke with, should it happen again. In addition, they copied my complaint to West Yorkshire Trading Standards as that is where ASDA HQ is located and they collate all complaints.

Unsurprisingly, I didn't have to wait long before I was, once again, overcharged on special offers: 6 tins ASDA Chopped Tomatoes (58p/3 for a £1) so £3.48 instead of £2. I immediately asked to see the (night-shift) manager, showed him the offending display, and took the chance to explain that when I was, similarly, overcharged many years ago, by Safeway, they gave me a full refund. I, also, pointed out that, in Canada, my cousin's local store have an identical policy to prevent customers from lodging official complaints. He agreed, and I got the items for free!

I decided to return to the store the next morning to check that the incorrect pricing had been removed. Incredibly, they were still being advertised as a "special offer" so I took a photo on my mobile phone. I also took 6 tins to check if the offer had been re-instated. It hadn't, so after paying I asked, again, to see the (night-shift) manager. Unfortunately, the person I spoke to the previous day wasn't on duty so I explained the situation and, again, pointed out the offending advertising. This time it was removed, immediately, although I was, again, told "It's nothing to do with the night-shift." and "Do you know how difficult it is to keep on top of the price changes, from head office, on over 11,000 items." My answer to that is employ sufficient staff to prevent this fraud from continuing! I mentioned my previous "Safeway" and "Canada store" experiences and, again, I was given the items for free!

After sending all the evidence I heard from Trading Standards, Edinburgh, that they are monitoring the situation in order to obtain evidence for themselves.

I also received typical standard apology letters from both the local store manager and ASDA HQ, Leeds, saying they would wait and see what Trading Standards reported.

I suggest anyone shopping at ASDA double-checks their receipt to make sure all "special offer/BOGOF" items have been charged correctly and not just the "MULTIBUY SAVINGS" listed at the bottom.

Hopefully, if enough people lodge official complaints, ASDA, and the other stores, will realise it isn't in their interest to antagonise their customers by stealing from them!

hmmm often the problem will be when a special offer begins, some of the product on the shelf before the offer won;t scan through with the new price, this doesn't always happen, but can do if the programmers have forgotten to include older bar codes. Same thing can happen the other way around, you might discover a product is priced at £3 but for some reason you're getting it for £1.50 each at the checkout, it was probably on offer before and one batch hasn't been corrected.
  • I have to agree Tesco are the worst for things in wrong places and items going through wrongly. Most recent their fault was frozen puff pastry, was at least a 1/3 off but went through at a different higher price, quibbled at cust services and got my full money back and the pastry, yum free dinner but a hassle queuing up for 10 minutes!

Definitely worth a go - makes it easier if the deal is still on too.

Glad to hear that - there is nothing like that satisfied feeling of having managed to get some money out of them!!
