I think I may have to have a chat with my GP about SPD, if i sit still for more than 5 minutes I'm in pain in the hip area when I stand up and walk away from the sofa/loo/bus stop like a 95 year old man lol.

Managed to get a physio appt today and it turns out I have SPD. Anyone got any experience or top tips? I'm on crutches for the foreseeable future and have another appointment in 2 weeks. Feel like poo actually, had all these visions of being a yummy mummy and now I can't even walk. I've got ages to go too :(:(

    Hi Courgette,

I have SPD too, its pants isn't it? Not a terrible amount of advice but heap loads of sympathy. The thing I find most frustrating is not really being able to get out the house (only 1 car, which OH has week days) and finding it difficult to enertain my active 2 year old. Try not to push it and really take it easy to stop it getting worse. I took a week off doing pretty much any walking at all (OH off work for half term) and the physio said that it had calmed down and to just try and stop it flaring up again. I find baths to be soothing for the pain, but that may depend on how easy you find it to get in and out of the bath.

Obviously not an avenue you really want to persue unless you really have to but my midwife said if mine got worse they would consider inducing me early..... perhaps discuss this with your ob or midwife...... although I really don't want this, knowing that it is an option if it gets unbareable helps me psycologically if you know what I mean.

Oooo and I'm sure a healthy dose of chocolate can't do any harm :A

The wait for your physio is outrageous 1more! Particularly considering you've had it since 11weeks! Have you much longer to go?

The other thing I forgot was when mine really flared up and the pain was awful my doc prescribed me codine to help with the pain...... not all docs will as it's not good to take it too often in pregnancy but for a week or two I felt I couldn't of done without it!

    big hugs

    xx

Hi Courgette, you have my sympathy as well! Ive had spd since 16 weeks (i'm nearly 30 weeks now) and i'm so fed up of it! Are you going back to see the physio? I only saw mine once who told me to do pelvic floor exercises and sent me away. I actually bought myself a pelvic support band as they wouldnt give me one! I'm still in a lot of pain, but i'm realising that i really have to limit myself to what i can do, i walked to the shop down the road before and i'm suffering badly now :( Just seriously fed up of being stuck in the house...i'm going stir crazy!! Have you tried sleeping with a pillow between your legs and under your bump at night? it does help a little and i also agree with the warm baths, it does bring some relief!
Hugs to you as i know how miserable it is. Try n take it easy as well xx

Eta- I've also been prescribed codiene as well, i really had to push for it as they were reluctant to give me it. Its a godsend on the nights i'm in too much pain to sleep!

Delain- I was wondering the same thing. I don't have a constant pain, but can't walk if I sit in one position too long, and then thats it for the rest of the day I will be hobbling around. I get severe shooting pains in groin and in pubic bone, and my hips are extremely painful too. I can't lift one leg at a time I have to move them together iygwim, and stairs are a nightmare as you have to step up! Getting in and out of the car is another problem area too. I've had this from about 12 weeks and had it but much less severely with DD, but I am one of those 'grin and bear it' types and never mention anything to the midwife as I forget, and just nod and say everything is fine. My DH and mum tell me to get it checked out, but I kind of feel like I've managed this far and I don't have that long now. I have a very high pain threshold anyway, but even for me it is agony, maybe it is SPD? What do people think? I've not bothered googling it, because I always end up self diagnosing some problem or other ha ha!

Been taking the calcium and raspberry leaf tea the last few days and it is fine, I was expecting it to be gross but just tastes like any other herbal tea to me. I have been brewing it really strong in a tiny cup though so I don't have much to get through :)
  • sounds exactly like me fernliebee, i must just be more of a wimp!!!!!
