Guys - what are your thoughts on having the odd glass of red wine?
I'm 14+ weeks now, and we are off to France on holiday next week.
We booked it pre-preg, and I'm a bit gutted that I wont be able to eat lovely things like cheese, pate, shellfish (I'd avoid anyway just in case) and wine...boo.
I was thinking of having the odd glass of wine..maybe one every other day? Any thoughts on this pleeeeeease?Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -

I'm just on my "things left to buy" list and have got to monitors/thermometer and wondered if anyone had any suggestions. Money is tight(ish) but I want a really good one, baby will be on a different floor to us after the first few months when it goes in its own room so I need one with a good range.
Thermometer wise, do I need a pricey fancy gro egg-type one or can I just get any old cheapo room thermometer?
I can't really vouch for the ones I have as they are not 'baby tested' as yet (still waiting!!!!!) and am sure someone with children who is more qualified than me will respond - I can just offer my opinion!!
I have got a gro egg and tbh think any normal room thermometer would have done instead of spending £20 on it! It's good in one way as it is easy to see the temp because of the colour (blue for cold, yellow for ideal, orange for warm and red for hot).
As for the monitor - I have got a BT digital 150 monitor which I really like as it is *very* clear, no interference and has temp on the base and parent unit (oh and a torch and the time in the parent unit which I think will be helpful for night feeds). My friend has one and she has a 4 month old and really rates it. It has good reviews on Amazon and Argos too. HTH a bit until someone else comes alongDebt Free Wannabe - work in progress and maternity leave is going to hinder somewhat, but we *WILL* be debt free.
First Baby due 12 July (overdue!) was Team Yellow, but looking very much like Team PINK!

morning all
just in case anyone forwards plans like i do (unlikely coz im a freak! LOL) our local £land had 20 socket covers in their baby section......
i know Landen cant even hold his own head up yet let alone stick his tongue in a plug socket but no doubt when he is capable of electrocuting himself I wont be able to find any!!!!
HTH *skulks off to lurkdom*
You would need to stick things in 2 of the sockets to get a shock and most of them cannot have things inserted without the earth being depressed first so it is almost impossible for them to get a shock from the sockets.. I have never had socket covers and have never had any of them putting things in them.BudgetBlonde wrote: »I'm trying to make the next 10 weeks go faster by writing lists. Why would you need a thermometer at all?
angelcare monitors (again.. yes I know I'm boring lol).. there is one has a built in thermometer if you really think you need one.. but surely you go by what you are wearing and how comfortable you are..Metranil_Vavin wrote: »Guys - what are your thoughts on having the odd glass of red wine?

of course the odd glass of wine is ok.
Most shellfish is too.. depends how it is prepared and stored and at what temp. really
Pate's are usually ok as well now depending on sourcing.
And it is only the nasty veined cheeses you are not supposed to have..
they are GUIDELINES not laws and you can actually have whatever you want.. just use a bit of common sense..
if it has mouse footprints.. don't eat it..
if it looks like it might bite you back.. don't eat it..
if it is walking.. don't eat it!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Well I maybe a bad mummy to be, but I have had the odd glass of wine. I have read that a glass of red every other day can be beneficial and you are past the 12 week mark (this is just my opinion and I know that some people won't touch a drop).
My friend drunk wine often when she was pregnant (2 glasses when out for a meal, and sometimes a liquer coffee to finish - I wouldn't have that much though) - she just waited until after 12 weeks to drink more than a glass a week.
I think everything in moderation and a small glass every other day is what I would do if I was going away. I feel for you - going to France and having to avoid the food!!! Oh, I have eaten shellfish throughout - as long as it is fully cooked through then you can eat it. It's all how comfortable you feel - it's your body and your baby. We are given recommendations to follow, but it's your choice. HTH!!!!:)Debt Free Wannabe - work in progress and maternity leave is going to hinder somewhat, but we *WILL* be debt free.

BUdgetBlonde - we are in similar situations I think. I am fed up too though I don't want the baby to come yet of course, I'm 28+5 now.
I am now feeling like a fat oaf, just went out to pick up something off a netmum (3 almost brand new moses basket sheets for £4.50) and it's windy so by the time I got there I felt like a fright- my hair was all over, I can hardly walk as it's a bad hip day and my eyebrows need waxing...and cos I'm at home I'd put a top I don't really like on! Managed to go back to sleep this morning about 7-9 so apart from being a bit groggy am ok in the end. Not sure how much work I am going to manage though as I'm so tired! I have some meeting notes to write up and my annual review, that should hopefully keep me occupied this morning at least!
CAFC - do you know I actually knew that as I spotted them a while ago and got some for my sister!
monitors/thermometers - i got the angelcare sound & movement off a netmum for £20...haven't tried it out yet but I must do. It has a temp thing on it so I wasn't going to bother with a seperate thermometer.
Ooooh, also this morning my 4 motherease rikki wraps came through the post from ebay. They don't even look used, and was 4 for £9.50 with postage which is a bargain..they are soooooooo cute and have little elephants and dolphins and things on!Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -

We've just got the Angel Care monitor with the movement sensor (literally - the delivery man dropped it off about half an hour ago!) Obviously we've not tried it yet, but it also has some very good reviews and has a built in room thermometer.
MV, I had a couple of alcoholic drinks when I was on holiday a couple of weeks ago - couldn't go to Italy and not try an Aperol SpritzMy Mum drank Guinness throughout her pregnancy with me and it certainly didn't do me any harm, so I don't see any reason not to have the odd one here and there.

Thanks everyone
I will avoid pate and soft cheese anyway, and I'm thinking that with shellfish you never can tell how fresh it is etc..so will prob give that a miss too. Shame as I love mussels in wine! But wouldn't want to risk eating a dodgy one.
I think I'll have maybe a glass every other day.
Thanks againMetranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
rach - oh................ it seems my work here is done............... LOL I'll get my coat
Pigpen _ didn't know that! Just thought if Landen takes after his dad (who thinks he has asbestos hands and sticks his hand in anything hot looking without checking) I'll have god knows what sticking out of my plugs..... also protects against puglets naughty behaviour of peeing up them!
loz - awwww that really cheered me up to know im missed.... im a bit in limbo.... not preggers anymore but dont feel grown up enough for the parent thread..... Landen is doing well thanks hun, we're now attempting to build a sort of routine, he's feeding well and slept like an angel this morning for me. Took him out on my own for the first time.... and he let me get round the whole of primark restocking my wardrobemummy's special boy
LOL

Thanks for the advice all, will look at the Angel care one.
Rach, I know exactly what you mean. Obviously, I want the baby to stay where it is for a few more weeks but I'm soooooo fed up now and am too impatient
When we went on hols (at 19 weeks) I had one mai tai all week but that was only because I figured a cocktail would use up all my units. Have totally gone off wine but I do like the odd beer. You're fine to have the odd drink, just drink plenty of water with it.
You can have soft smelly cheese if it's cooked, and shellfish is OK if it's cooked and hot (although I suppose you wouldn't know how it had been prepared and stored)Bellymonkey due 25/09/10 :j0
