Another vote for the pegged up sheet or scarf rather than a parasol/ umbrella thing. They are rubbish, you can never position them so they shade baby properly and if you do then they are inevitably sticking out at a bizarre angle, creating an obstruction- I hate them. With DD I had a scarf and a couple of mini dog clips from a stationary set that lived in the bottom of the buggy, this time round I have the pram rather than the buggy so already much better protected, and will just use the same scarf and peg combo- much easier IMO.
Toy's wise we didn't buy any for DD before she was born (I hate most baby toys anyway, I fling anything that has an american accent/ stupid tunes/ annoying sounds etc) and anyway DD's favourite things to look at were our living room curtains or shadows on the wall. She obviously got bought loads when she was born anyway, but like pigpen said she was never interested in many toys, just played with stuff we already had around the house. This baby has quite a few left from DD.0 -
Fernlie, noisy toys used to disappear in our house too. Our bubs is deprived of toys too at the moment, been thinking I'd quite like a swing/ bouncer though. Definately with simple things though, we used to love playing with things like funnels and plastic bottles in the bath, and making houses out of boxes.
The England match is truly dreadful. Only watching the end bit cos OH boss and his son are really into it, and it gives them something to talk about.

Possibly one of my more stupid questions but...
How do you bath the children when you cannot lift them in or out of the bath.. they have mobility problems and cannot climb in and out safely. You cannot lean over the bath to scrub them and you cannot reach the bottom of the bath to put the plug in??????????
Showers are reserved for punishment only as they hate them and scream hysterically.. I have no idea why they just do!
I have 3 to scrub who cannot do themselves.. 1 can get in and out herself.. We feel it is inappropriate for OH to bath them.. which is a bit mad seeing as he often helps them get dressed/pj's on at their request.. and there is no way on earth he would EVER harm any of them... but we don't..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
How old are they pigpen? Can the OH just help get them in and out would they be able to wash themselves once in with you supervising? Ok they may not get clean to your standards but it has to be better than no bath at all and if you put plenty of bubble bath in that will help to get them clean just with them splashing about :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

5 and 7 and 9.
They all need me to scrub their nitty nests.. and the 2 tiddly ones need lifting in and out and scrubbing..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Would let you wash their hair in the sink? you could stand next to them with them on chair so you dont have to bend then just wash them down with a flannel not ideal but better than nothing :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Pigpen, would one of your older DDs be able to help? (Sorry, not sure which ones of yours are able to help and which ones aren't.)
Bah, just attempting to pack my hospital bag - why is it that I'm putting more thought into packing a bag for what is hopefully going to be a really short stay, than I do for a week going camping?
Need to pilfer some of OH tshirts for the actual gory bits though. Stupid question - would I go to the hospital in the shirt I intend to give birth in, or change when I get there?
