jayjay have you had any other symtoms such as show, dodgy tummy etc as well as these cramps. I would give your labour ward a call and see what they suggest. They wont mind as that is what they are there for

have the length of the pains got longer? that could also be a sign that things are progressing. you may just not have noticed that they have got worse over several hours if its happened gradually.

i do hope it is the real thing and you are soon having cuddles. sorry i couldnt be much help

Will time again to see how long they are lasting think its about 40secs to a minute but do I time from beginning of one contraction to another or end of one contraction to start of another to find how often they are coming. I have been timing from the end of one to start of another is this correct

to be honest i am not sure. i have always done start of contraction to start of next. i think as long as your doing the same constantly that should be fine as you will see any changes.

Jay.. mine never got any closer together either.. if you have been doing 'special poo' (ie running there often to clear out.. or did yesterday) or want to eat less/not at all (your digestive system shuts down in labour) it is possible this is it.. bets way to find out.. wait and see! Or you can give your hands a good scrub and have a feel of your cervix see if it feel more open or shorter than normal.. it is quite normal to be able to fit 2 fingers in during the last few weeks of pregnancy particularly if you have other children.. just don't be injuring yourself! Could you go for a gentle walk around the block or to the end of the street and back see if this helps? Take someone with you just in case if you can.

I am sure you could pop up to the labour ward .. they'll stick you on a monitor for a bit and see what is going on.. but the monitors don't always pick up contractions anyway.. examination is far better IME.

fingers crossed everyone will be being shunted up the list a step and this is it for you!!

Jay Jay - I would ring the labour ward

Like slm said that is what they are there for - you could just be progressing slowly if they are constant and at the same speed.

Write down the time that each contraction begins and when it tapers off to find out how long your contractions are lasting at this stage. Also keep a note of the time between each one ending and the next one beginning, so that you know how frequent they are.

Let us know how you get on chick. x x x x

wanted to say if it is labour can you please send some of that my way as I'm fed up of her head grinding and her wriggling in my pelvis ! I want her out now!

Thanks that makes sense. It also means they are probably about 4 minutes apart not 3.

contraction lengths are timed for start to end of one, longer contractions tend to be nearer the end.. unless you are me! lol.. and the frequency (how often they are occuring) are start of one to start of the next.. there is the timer on the EDD list on here remember.. if you find it useful!
