does anyone have a list of essentials for their hospital bag or any links to a good one? i remember my auntie was given one by the midwife but i havent go one yet and want to keep an eye out incase i see any bargains in the meantime ( im only 22wks but like to be well prepared lol)
also what do you all think RE babys should lie flat in their prams when new born. i was told they should be laying flat. but any prams i have seen with the carrycot are quiet expensive. and ive seen a gorge lil pram for £200. its like a buggy altho the car seat attaches to it similar to this one http://www.graco.co.uk/en_GB/product/7B54/SHWU/
the more i think of it i wont be using the pram that much, its not as if the baby will be in it ALL the time IFSWIM?0 -
Thankyou for your help. I go back in just less than two weeks for another blood test. I don't understand why my gp or midwife didn't tell me that i would need to be monitored more. It was a bit of a shock when the profesor at the hospital called me in and said they need to check my thryoid and monitor me more. I had gone for my scan and my booking in appointment. Referal had been made by midwife when i was 12 weeks but it got sent to the wrong hospital, then it got sent again and midwife had to chase it up. So didn't get seen at hospital till i was 20 weeks. I had found that i had been feeling more cold than usual, i would be at home shivering, whilst my dh would be saying that it is warm.plymouthscubagirl wrote: »Moneysaver12 yes I too am hypothyroid and yes you should be monitored more closely. I tried telling the doc this for ages as its crucial in the first 12wks for development etc but they wouldn't listen! Then when I did eventually get tested mine had shot back up to TSH 16 - no wonder I was tired - just thought it was being pregnant
make sure they do test you regularly as it will fluctuate. I was told they could also test as to whether I've passed my old lady's disease on to bubs too apparently - poor thing, hope not  Will try and find out more on that this week.Married 09/09/090 -
Evening all, well probably most of you are fast asleep I will be soon hopefully as is much cooler than the sauna it was last night!!
Rach glad everything is OK is with the scan, shouldn't worry seemed quick - everything was fine so they didn't need to double check! Also re the rooms I've spent a few nights in the spare room of late as can't get comfy and don't want to keep DH awake.
Crazytink what a nightmare, hope you feel better xxThomas born 28/08/2010 weighing 5lbs and 4ounces, small but perfectly formed :j:j Now weighs 19lbs and 5 ounces

Someone told me yesterday that if you are pregnant (and intend to breastfeed) you shouldn't be wearing an underwired bra as it effects the development of milk ducts. Has anyone heard this before? I've never owned a bra that didn't have underwire.
it is advisable to not wear an underwire bra regardless of whether you are pregnant or not, or whether you intend to breastfeed or not!.. it can cause mastitis, blocked ducts or infection in the glands. Breasts produce milk whether you breastfeed or not and you can get mastitis when you have never been pregnant.
The underwire is basically for scaffolding anyway and if you have a bra that fits properly it is unnecessary.
You shouldn't wear an underwire while breastfeeding either.. for the above reasons.
I wore my normal bras until they no longer fitted then bought nursing bras.. by 3 months pregnant I had increased 3 cup sizes
Underwires also pose a health risk if they become dislodged they can pierce the skin leading to infection and/or injury.. this did happen to a couple of people I know.. my cousin had to have one removed from her arm pit.. bear in mind she has chest pimples rather than boobs.. and another rather well endowed friend had one embed itself in her throat.. it had worked itself loose and as she sat down it pierced her throat into her windpipe!!

Hello everyone - sorry i haven't been about lately - been having a good ol' whinge on facebook for the last 5-6 days though, lol as many of you will know.
Well, i'm well and truly overdue but finally, yup finally my waters have broken...i never thought i'd be so happy to start labour in all my life LOL
Waters went about 4.30am this morn, just felt really restless then 'pop' and trickle trickle and it hasn't stopped since. I've got niggles, coming regular but a good 10 mins apart (yay) so i'm on orders from hosp to stay put for now but come in if they get close - and if not i'm due in for 8.30am to be checked anyway.
Waters were pink so tinged with blood but apparently this is ok!
So just felt very obliged to let you all know seeing as you have all been so lovely to me and putting up with my miserable self.
Hopefully by this time tomorrow i will have my baby boy in arms and no longer kicking me in the gut

Morning
Hi Pigpen - hope things are going well for you.
I have ALWAYS worn underwired and slightly padded bra's, even through all previous pregnancies. Unfortunately I am not gifted with big boobs, and there is no way I would wear a 'normal' bra.
MGEB - :j, Glad things finally seem to be moving along for you. here's wishing you a quick and painless labour:)
My little monkey decided 6am was a good time to start shouting and rattling his cot for me to come and get him....I tried to tell him it is a bit early, he wouldn't listen;):p Got to drop the car off at the garage today as it is leaking Transmission Fluid, from the newly fixed Gearbox:mad:

best of luck MGEB.
You havent been grumpy or miserable, you're massively overdue so everyone here can understand that! I dont think i'd fancy carrying the extra weight in this heat and getting all those cramps and pains.
You're nearly there now, it will all seem like a bad dream
Make sure you come back and tell us the weight and the less gory version of the story!MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
Thanks ladies...i'm still here (just) - DD has just been picked up so i'm super relieved and can relax a little now and get into the swing of things
Just waiting for hubby to eat his breakfast then we are off to hosp. Contractions now just under 6 mins apart - YAY!!! Waters are still going - lol, SIL was making me laugh and we were almost in tears of laughter with me trying to stop because it was making them 'go' even more. Sorry if TMI but i have soaked a bed mat, and 3 mat pads - never knew i had so much waters in me and they haven't stopped, lol! I also weighed myself after they went haha and have lost 4lbs so must be alot.
Redmel - hope you little one gives you an easy morning
Pigpen - Thats scary stuff!!! I too have always worn underwired just in bigger sizes - but then again mine are changed every day (so i know they are still intact and all) and there is no way i wear a bra to bed so little risk for me i suppose. I have worn maternity bras this time but if i'm off out for the day i hate the fact they give you no support really - not like a good underwired, slightly padded bra
I also wore underwired through the entire time i was b/feeding DD. They can cause pain though and i think if you do experience this maybe better to at least wear a soft bra some of the time as the breast tissue is dellicate while your preg. Just one of those things really - take it as things come.
Ok well i'm off to hosp now - Speak to you all soon! xMummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0 -
good luck MGEB, smooth labour vibes for you.
Re bras I am now a convert to a soft bra - I swear by bravissimo for bras, get fitted there etc. It's pricey but I just buy less - for instance I just hvae one at the moment, it's very easy to wash and dries overnight. I don't know that I'll ever go back to underwires as these are so much more comfy (and I'm big chested).
Another night in the spare room for me, but I prefer it in a way as I don't worry about getting up or waking dh. my parents are coming thurs-sun though and are supposed to be staying here, but I think I will speak to in laws and see if they can stay up there instead (only 5 mins walk away and they have the space).Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0
