I did actually find that some things worked out better to buy new than to bother with second hand, these were (from memory) A moses basket, as I found one for £25.99 inc mattress and all covers etc and I got quidco. I had been looking for a second hand one and hadn't had any luck at carboot or freecycle etc, and the ones at NCT were £12 and you then had to buy mattress and some of them didn't even have the fabric covers etc!!
Also packs of vests and plain babygrows are so cheap in Asda and Tesco etc that I bought these rather than trawl the charity shops for most of my newborn stuff, though once we knew she was a girl people bought us loads anyway. We also got bought a buggy (maclaren techno) from my dad, and we got a new car seat as it was important to me, but it was good old kiddicare with money back on quidco!
Personally, I tend to get most stuff second hand so that I can afford to splash out on a few lovely bit's without feeling guilty about spending money we can't really afford. If you have the money then I can't see why you need to feel guilty for it/ justify it to anyone- like I said your baby, your rules!!
I don't think your being contraversal Smartie! I am with you with buying new, but I have to admit I have bought most of my newborn stuff 2nd hand as I am unsure how big/ small bubs will be. I just go for what is the best buy as some stuff 2nd hand can be just as dear as new!! Plus I got up 7.30am this morning to go to the local car boot and it was pouring so I didnt bother going
I have also bought lots of new stuff as some of it was so cheap; i bought all new feeding stuff like steriliser, bottles, bottle warmer, breast pump, bibs, etc, new monitor, probably 50% new clothes 50% 2nd hand, new bedding, new cot, new mattress, new towels, new blankets, and the rest of the items on my list will also be new; pram, sling/ carrier, car seat, etc. I also feel like me and OH work hard for our money (even tho atm we dont have alot of it!) but discount codes/ special offers make such a difference!
But I am with you Fernlie, saving money buying some bits second hand has made me feel less guilty about buying stuff new; like our bedding from mothercare was about the 2nd dearest thing we bought, it was almost as much as the cotbed!!!0 -
morning all (just)
been awake since 8am but only just got out of bed coz i figured, what was the point!?
Beat you - I'm only just up!
Choccy - good luck for your labour
Smartie -not controversial at all. I'm actually planning on buying a new Mothercare crib, one that you can rock. Babe will grow out of it in about 3 months but I don't care, it's sooooo cute. Other stuff will be a combination of old and new.
SPD is grinding on, I think it's a when not if I get signed off work now which is still upsetting but I'm starting to get my head round it a bit more now. I was trying to cling on til my yr11s got to their GCSEs on 8th & 10th June but I'm not sure that's gonna be possible anymoreI decided to treat myself last night and not tie my legs together when I went to bed but I think that was a mistake unfortunately.
Have a lovely weekend everyone. Poor hubby has been given a list of jobs as long as his arm!:rotfl:

ok real pregnancy question....
Ive got really bad leg cramps in one leg today, but ive had them in both legs for about 4-5 days, was telling a friend of mine via msn, and she asked me if i was breathless as well, so i said a bit but thats just because baby is so huge, and pushing everything upwards....
She said it could be a sign of something negative but couldnt tell me what (?!) anyone got any ideas?
All she said was she cant remember the name of it, but her sister was suspected of having it when she had the same symptoms...
How thoughtful of your friend to worry you like that. My mum once read an article in the Daily Mail and decided that I had cancer based on it. Didn't actually bother to keep the article or even make a note of the symptoms I apparently had
Ring the NHS helpline if you're worried xxUpdating soon...0 -
ok taken me the best part of an hour to google, and it apparently can be a sign of pulmonary embolism......
But Im pretty sure I dont have one. Im not breathless all the time, only when bubs is in certain positions, and there are some other boxes I dont tick LOL so calm is restored LOL
I'll mention both to midwife on thursday and see if she is bothered, but likelihood is she wont be.... as they never are by anything I mentionWealth is not measured by currency0 -
Leg cramps are very common cafc i suffer terrible with them in the later stages infact its the only thing that can send me flying across the bedroom in the early hrs so i can stand on the cold floor and get rid of them. Even when i had my SPD in the last pregnancy it only took me seconds to get there as the cramp was more painfull than the SPD.
Well ive been out and got everything i needed and taken some things to the post office. Bunk beds are now kitted out with new bedlinen and i even treated my room to a set as well as its so cheap in B&M. Its rained the whole time ive been out now im in the house the sun is shining TYPICAL!!!!:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -
i was expecting leg cramps, and boy have I got them!
apparently they only matter when twinned with breathlessness, swelling, loss of appetite, chest pains etc
I've generally been getting them when in bed, so im wondering if its to do with how im laying, and its mostly in the morning hours.....can be a sign of dehydration as well so drinky drinky drinky....
Just had a bath as I was getting some period pain aches.... so had bath and sat in there talking to the baby outloud for the first time LOL which set me off crying......
took some new photos as well, so soon as my camera has charged, I'll try and get them on xxWealth is not measured by currency0 -
Hello all
Had a reasonable night, night nannying, got home at 7.30am and had couple hrs sleep.
We then went to look at trading in both our cars for one bigger one, one car is just over 2yrs old and one is just over 1yr old (with very very low mileage) managed to get a good deal and have brought a 15mth old Vauxhall Astra and getting a little bit of money back to pop in the bank, we pick it up on wednesday eve. One of our current cars is a 2 seater convertible and shame to sell but had to be realistic and the other a fiesta and boot is reasonable size but wanted slightly bigger and didnt like the ford focus so went for the vauxhall astra.
So we will be back to one car but always managed before and will buy a cheap run around should we find we become desperate for a second car.0 -
hope this one works

Evening ladies and bumps
Choccy - Im hoping your in labour now as you've not been back on all day. I echo what Xmas says - avoid the bath.
The best thing to do when having a sweep is walk , walk and walk.
I had so many sweeps with no5 although looking back they wouldnt have worked in a million years as she was bouncing in and out of my pelvis as she was so small compared to the 4 lads. I was told to take laxatives from my midwife but that didnt help either, neither did OH's DIY sweeps. Bless him he was so brave
I feel for you though
Xmas - Did I read the other day that you had ordered your pram ?
Hope everyones good and happy0
