First of all they won't go to waste if they're in the freezer
They'll be fine for months. Secondly there's been a lot of blackberry related chat lately on this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=239847&highlight=blackberry+picking
HTH:) There are some recipes there if you trawl through the thread.0 -
Hello mikeywills,
As thriftlady says we do have a great thread on blackberry picking with recipes so I'll merge your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together. The posts are listed in date order so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

Hi Moggins,
Any chance of getting your blackberry ketchup recipe, I think that may be the only way to convince DH to eat them!
Thanks in advance.

I've been reading this thread and I didn't know that you got maggots in brambles! (insert horrified face here)
It's giving me the royal willies in honesty, now I have mountains of these in the freezer, if I thaw them in the sink in water do you think the maggots will fall out and just gather on the bottom of the sink like they do when they're fresh? now their frozen will I get the maggots out at all?
I'm not vegie or anything but maggots just give me the screaming heebies, and it's putting me right off using the fruit if I can't get them out!
(which I know is ridiculous because I could happily accept a wee aphid or tiny wee fly or something being in there but I've got the horrors now!)0 -
You need to be quick in getting to the remaining brambles/brimbles!
According to folklore:They (brambles) are also a common feature of superstitions and folklore, especially the time after the berries ripen or 'blackberry time'. Depending on the local climate this was usually between late August and early October and a common belief was that after old Michaelmas Eve (October 10th) you should never pick or eat a blackberry because on that night the Devil would pee on them and the consequences would be dire. This tradition can be found all over Devon but the timing varies as does what the Devil did to the berries which ranged from cursing, spitting and peeing on them. It is thought that this idea stems from the story of how when the Devil was cast out of Heaven he fell to earth and landed in a brimble bush. As he was trying to extricate himself from the clutches of the tangle of thorns he cursed the bush. Every year since that event he spoils the berry crop on the anniversary of his landing by spitting etc on them.

I used to raid my brother's garden, but sadly he's left the country now. However, where I park my car at work, the area is surrounded by fruit bushes and I happen to notice its full with blackberry's, so Im going armed with my conatiner tomorrw!
Sorry, cant help with the Cardiff area! Do you know of any nature walks, perhaps you may find some bushes amongst the wild!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Please if you going blackberrying please don't pick any blackberries that are lower than 2 or 3 feet from the ground you don't know how many dogs or humans for that matter have been caught short and watered the brambles...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
