snax wrote:Question for Amazon experts ... Is it possible to list on Amazon.com [USA Amazon]?
I have a CD which is not listed at all on Amazon.co.uk but is listed on .com, but if I try to list, it asks for a valid US zip code to dispatch from ... can't figure a way past it?
I don't profess to be an expert by answering this.... (nor do I know if this is correct, but here goes..) I think I have seen the answer on here before somewhere, but no, I don't think you can list on .com, you have to be resident over there. It may be similar to the way you have to have a UK invoice address and UK bank account to list on .co.uk - funny how all the American sellers manage to have one of these... :rolleyes:AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0024 come and join us :hello: make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the Ebay and other auctions, Car Boot and Jumble Sales Board0 -

I would not class myself as one of the 'big boys', can't speak for Amazombie.
I regularly 'visit' the Amazon discussion boards and don't think the 'lower volume' sellers on here do anything different to the sellers 'over there'.
I think the 'big boys' as in 'volume sellers' have different sources to boot fairs, charity shops etc they trade in 'quantity' rather than 'quality' - that is not to say that they don't get the odd 'little gems' in their stock and I'm pretty sure they don't buy from Ebay.
I don't think you can 'make it big' by doing the rounds at boot fairs, jumble sales etc because it is very time consuming for finding stock. I've recently had 2 very bad weekends at bootfairs - none of my regular £20 or £30 books were anywhere to be found - I could only find a handful of £2 - £3 books - so I won't be retiring this month
I'd love for Amazombie to disagree 'cos I'd like to give up the day job - just can't see how.

Is it possible that the "big boys" are all long time book dealers who used to have "brick and mortar" bookshops and have just moved with the times??? They may even still have a shop or stall thus having two potential chances to sell one book???Laughing at my ancient signature...voodoobaby now 10 years old:eek:0 -
Not 100% sure if this is totally appropriate but I remember some chat on here about digital scales a week or so ago .... noticed this on sale tomorrow [thurs 28/09/06] ..... £6.99.
can't find direct link - sorry.
http://www.aldi-stores.co.uk/ ... click 'Thursday Special Offers' at bottom of window and scroll down to 4th row of items.
Hope it helps.Learn to laugh at yourself ... everyone else has:rotfl:

I need to sell off all my Amazon books as I can't store them and have lost interest. Its is not because they are worth nothing, I just don't have the time nor the space as I have set up a website selling new books (see profile!). Do you think its worth eBaying them as collection only or would the local paper be better?
Thanks,Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0 -
Thanks for all your replies AT, FFM and Annie (annie we need to get you an anacronym too!)
I have been considering doing the amazon/ebay thing full time for a while just because there is a good chance I am going to be made redundant next summer - and no big redundancy payment either boo hoo! I really thoroughly enjoy bookselling, I love books, I love reading them and dealing with them and selling them and I would love to become full-time self-employed. Since my husband is the main breadwinner 'so-to-speak' I would only need to earn about £900 which I think with the tax-implications of being full-time self-emplyed is totally do-able - although I could be wrong. Anyway I will keep increasing my stock and keeping track of my figures and hopefully I will see a steady increase in my income so that by July I may actually be able to do it full-time, could be wishful thinking but that is my plan.
I also believe that having fingers in lots of pies helps. I currently make money on books on amazon and ebay, plus I still make a healthy sum from my ebooks on ebay, and my GreenM sales are steadily increasing, plus I am going to try having a stall at a bookfair this weekend and see if that is lucrative or not.

Chell - I think you should give ebay a go, all of the book lots seem to go for quite a bit of money on there even as collection only.My darling boy born December 20110 -
Kat, is it not really difficult keeping track of all your stock when you have it listed on several places?Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0

Kat , I like your idea of listing in several places. I try to do something similar and i just hope my system holds up.
I had a good buy today, Childrens ex library books as many as you could fit in to the supplied carrier bag for a pound. Bought two loads and choose thin ones that could go as a large letter. I'm working my way through them at the moment and putting them up on Amazon first. Then tomorrow I'll add some of them to GM as well and mark my records with a G to show they are there, then I'll look at ebay and if i list there will add a * to my records.
So far I have a few 1p books that I probably won't bother with at all, but also a few in the £2-£3 area, which should be a nice little profit. It all helps!
I can't decide whether to go back for more..

apprentice_tycoon wrote:A question for the 'big boys' - Amazombie and FFM The majority of us are humble part timers and since the subject of full time Amazoning came up I have a query. To do the job 'properly' and treat it as a job rather than a pin money machine do you have to be cunning with your purchases? ie, not just buying from the usual places like charity shops, bootsales and the like but using your knowledge to seek out specific books from other sources? What I trying to say is do you have to have real skill - more than just the experience we have all got in varying degrees - to make decent money out of it?
It is possible to make a decent living from sourcing just through boot sales, charity shops etc but I think you need to sell through 3 or 4 venues not just Amazon or Ebay. I suppose there has to be some skill when selecting the right stock but in my case its just something Ive learned with years of practice. There are people on Amazon and Ebay selling much more than me but I prefer a quiet life and would rather sell 30 nice books a week than doing 14 hour days selling 500 paperbacks.0
