  • Its been a funny day today.

I sold a book earlier on today and recieved £3.04 altogether from amazon. I went into town to the Post Office and it turned out to cost £2.12 to post 2nd class. So less about 20p for the envelope, I only made about 70p.

I also suddendly realised when I was fighting the traffic to get back home, that I could have used my village post office just down the road. I kicked myself, but have promised myself I will use only that in the future.

Anyways, I get back home and check my mail and low and behold, I've sold one of my most expensive books and recieve £8.84 altogether from amazon. I jump back in the car but this time drive down to the local PO, only to find out they close at 4pm  and will be shut over the weekend

I imagine the postage will be even more for this one. Probably around £2.50, so at least thats £6 profit.

    I want more!!!! :D

    Have you tried online postage??
as long as it fits through a normal postbox slot you don't even have to visit a PO
Try it - it's easy and quick

    How do I do that?

If you go to the Royal Mail website and use their price finder option

    http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFinder;jsessionid=PQSTQW1VRHJX4FB2IGGEOSQ;jsessionid=PQSTQW1VRHJX4FB2IGGEOSQ?catId=23500532&reset=true&gear=pricingcalc

After you have chosen your destination and weight it will show you the various price options and alongside each option will be a button where you can select to buy and print a label. You will need your credit card handy.

  • Hi Kat and all
I thought I would post my progress for you all to see how much of an affect your advice can make.
This last month I have sold 172 books/cd's/DVD's which averages at 44 per week. I now have approx 1400 listed and more in the garage to list. I find most of mine at either car boots or ebay and the odd one from a charity shop. This has changed my life; I am slowly but surely paying off my debts. I also now have an ebay shop which I have sold over £150.00 worth of stuff on in the last couple of weeks. I love this site and what it's doing for me and can't thank all of you enough for your help and support - long may it continue. For anyone out there just starting - GO FOR IT - it's hard work but worth the effort (except for the odd few refunds and 2/5 for no reason!!)
    Have a good weekend
    Annie

What sort of stuff do you find sells best in your ebay shop Annie???:D

I really need to get back into it all but have sort of lost the momentum...and most of all lost faith in ebay totally!!!

Well done RM - watch out though its addictive this selling lark ;)

There have been quite a few discussions on this thread in the fairly recent past about packaging in the light of the postal charges changing and packets having to fit through slots so it might be worth having a look back or searching the thread. I seem to remember someone had bought thin foam and others use bubble wrap and brown paper so there's quite a few ideas out there.

    Good luck with the selling

No, you print it on normal paper and then stick it on. You do need accurate scales though
