Selling your stuff on Amazon - Part 6- Advice for newbies in first post

  • Hello everyone.
I've been lurking for about a month now and have found this thread a fasinating read. A few days ago I decided to put some of my cds and Xbox games on Amazon and have been suprised by the responce. Not going to be a millionaire but seeing as I was just going to take them to my local record shop and take anything for them, I'm pleased.

So a big thankyou for this thread and a quick question.
I've just sold a game (only £3.50 but every little helps as they say) but the buyer emailed me after and said he'd moved and could I sent it to his new address. I presume this is safe but wanted to check after reading all the horror stories about Ebay. His name is the same as his registered address on Amazon and he has an AOL email.
So does everyone think this is alright?

    Thanks
  • Hello G-man, welcome to MSE and the Amazon thread :hello: it's great to hear that you've got started with your selling, at the very least you've got a few bob and a bit more space - at the other send of the extreme you could take it up as a serious money stream like a lot of us on here.

Your question - I think that there is very little chance of there being a problem with this alternative address, I'd send it.
  • Thanks - I did look at that link first, but couldn't find any 'first editions' information on it - maybe the website has changed?
It seemed to be mainly a list of searchable sites for rare books, which was helpful to give me an idea how to price my book, but didn't tell me how I know what a first edition actually is! Maybe I was looking in the wrong place though? I'm quite an Amazonian newbie, so forgive me if I'm being dense! :o

I think I'm going to steer clear of this rare books stuff in future as it seems like a bit of a minefield to me!!!

Hi GT, it seems that the website had morphed into something else so I've added the new link to the first post
  • Please note that when Amazon.co.uk forwards your message, we include important notices to the buyer about how orders work.

Does anyone know what the extra information Amazon sends? I always ask for feedback as I'm new - only 5 replies so far despite selling 23 books :( although so far all 5s :D

Do they provide information on how to give feedback - I know one person under old direct mail system replied and asked me how but not sure with new mail system if this is now included?
  • Just want to say thanks to apprentice tycoon. Am packaging up now.

Here's a copy of an email sent by the seller to the buyer (I have removed/altered specific details).

    Seller's e-mail: seller@ntlworld.com

IMPORTANT: Amazon.co.uk's A-to-z Guarantee only covers third-party purchases paid for through our Amazon Payments system (via our Shopping Cart or 1-Click). Our Guarantee does not cover any payments that occur off Amazon.co.uk including wire transfers, money orders, cash, check, or off-site credit card transactions.

    Dear Buyer.

Many apologies for the delay in dispatching the audiotape. ....... etc ....

Please contact me if you have any further queries.

    Best wishes

Notice: Amazon.co.uk may retain copies of e-mails sent through this system, and takes no responsibility and assumes no liability for the content of any messages forwarded to you.

Amazon.co.uk will never e-mail you and ask you to disclose or verify your Amazon.co.uk password, credit card, or banking account number. If you receive a suspicious e-mail with a link to update your account information, do not click on the link--instead, report the e-mail to Amazon.co.uk for investigation. Go to amazon.co.uk/phish to find out more.

So, in answer to your response - no advice on giving feedback.

Unfortunately you cannot put any links in your emails to the buyers when emailing them through the Amazon site. However, if they then reply to your first email you will be able to email them outside of the Amazon system and send them this link to leave feedback.

What a pity! That was a really interesting site - especially with regard to how to spot a first edition from different publishers.

It looks as if the 'domain' expired and who ever 'owned/rented' bookaway.com no longer 'subscribes'. The link at the bottom of the page gives: Inquiring about the domain 'bookaway.com', with status: Expired

    Hi AT

This site looks similar in content:

    http://www.emptymirrorbooks.com/collecting/firstedition.html

This one looks quite good too:

  • The booksellerworld site is the most useful as its UK based and deals mainly with the identification of UK Firsts.

The emptymirror site is more for US Firsts and this is a real minefield. In the US, book club editions look very similar to the Firsts and each publisher had its own set of rules when dating and numbering. To the uninitiated, its impossible to tell just from the spine whether its a book club or First.

Thank goodness for BCA and GP logo's! :j
