One shop I know of uses biro. (Just to spite us amazon sellers I think!:D)

Worse is one who has decided to stick those v. sticky labels on the first inside page, the papery one (not the cover) - and using white spirit leaves a shiny mark -so annoying so I rarely buy from them anymore, too much hassle and worry that you will tear the page.

Does anyone know if you use wd40 on paper if it leaves a mark. Because it is basically grease right???Wrong???

I am raising this thorny subject again, as I have just spotted this on the sellers discussion board:

    Dear Customer

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk Marketplace regarding the
dispatch methods you can use for your Marketplace orders.

Please understand that we do not have a fixed method of dispatch for
sellers. Marketplace sellers are required to dispatch items by first
Class. This is because buyers pay first class postage and also you
are required to dispatch the item within two working days of
    receiving the order confirmation.

Please also understand that it is not obligatory for a seller to
send items via recorded delivery. We only recommend recorded
delivery especially in case of items that may be expensive and may
require to be signed for. Moreover, recorded delivery also provides
    you with a tracking facility.

I hope this clarifies the matter. Thank you for selling on
    Amazon.co.uk Marketplace.

Wonder what you all think? I had just started sending some items second class particularly heavy items as there is a huge jump in prices between first and second. It is all a bit confusing.

I had an email recently from a buyer stating he thought the postage was too high and I tried to explain that amazon set the rate. He has yet to leave feedback, so I will have to see if he mentions it. The book was only £2.50 and I sent it first class!!

I send most of my books out 2nd class, unless I'm a bit slow getting to the PO.

I find that 2nd class often get there in a couple of days anyway - urm oh and so does 1st class!!

I thought the only stipulation from Amazon was that you despatched within 2 business days - I didn't think they said anywhere about whether you had to use 1st class.

Also I find that with a lot of my books I just can't make a profit if I send them out using 1st class.

You've got me searching the Amazon files now.

Must say I've never had any complaints from my customers

Well you are quite right, as I have received stuff from them second class. I just noticed this on the discussion board, as they are always debating it too. It seems that nowhere does it say it should be first class. One of the posters said she had enquired and been sent this.

Further on someone posted that they had been told second was fine. Anyway what with the post increases etc. we may have to send second to survive!

PS Virtually all the stuff I have purchased from Amazon sellers comes second class. Usually two days after ordering.

  • That email from Amazon really muddies the water because it used to be essential that parcels were sent 1st class, that was in the days when the buyer paid £3.75 for the postage and the seller got that extra £1 more for each transaction (those were very lucrative days....).
When the changed it the buyers p&p to £2.75 there wasn't the same emphasis on first class any more but if they are changing their minds about this they should clarify.

I'm still locked in on the old days of first class postage but I turn it to my advantage and shout about it in the description and I even altered my user name to make reference to the quick delivery there too, since I did that around 4 weeks ago my sales have gone up by about 1/4 or maybe even 1/3 - it could be a coincidence but .....

AP perhaps we should all contact them regarding this, but if they then decide yes it should all be first class, a lot of people will not be able to continue selling.

I still send most stuff first, but there are instances where the profits are so low that only second class will suffice.

PS One of my rare second class parcels took 14 days to get to its destination!!!

I bought some books at a car boot on Sunday, except we got rained off before I had really got going (I live in the North, it's bound to rain!!) Had a pending on one of them tonight - tempted to contact purchaser, but brain has gone - anyone got any good wordings to use please?

    bELLA

I had this recently and wrote to the buyer. "Hi I noticed you have tried to purchase the above book, but there seems to have been a problem with the payment. I was wondering if you still wish to buy the book. If there is a problem with your credit card, I am happy for you to send a postal order/cheque, however I would have to wait for the cheque to clear." blah blah.

In this instance the buyer thought she had purchased the book! In the end Amazon automatically relisted it, so I emailed her inviting to go in again and have another go, as yet nothing to date. HTH
