Selling your stuff on Amazon - Part 6- Advice for newbies in first post

Ive just had my first request for a refund, from a buyer saying that a cd i sold them doesnt play and if i refunded them, they will return it to me, ive read the refund pages on Amazon and ive asked them to return the Cd to me and then i will issue a full refund.
Have i done the right thing????
The cynical part of me thinks that they may have copied it and just want a refund, but the other part thinks that OMG ive sold a dodgy Cd and i want to do everything properly.
Any advice welcome!!!0 -

Absolutely! They are protected by the A-Z Guarantee scheme if the seller doesn't refund after they have returned the item - so the buyer has nothing to worry about.

snax wrote:Certainly videos may now be uneconomical to bother with, even more so as they gradually die out like cassette tapes and 8 track before them - but unless your CD's and DVD's are in a thicker than normal case, then even with packaging they should still slot through the 25mm thickness limit for a 'Large Letter' ... mine do.

The experiment I did showed DVds in a jiffy would not go through easily. They would go through, but only if I helped them and the Post lady said that was not good enough. This does therefore suggest that different post offices may allow more 'help' than others, so it may be worth changing PO where it is practical and where one post person inteprets the rules less vigourously.

I've tried this PIP gauge with DVDs and found that if I folded the packing slip to show just the address in the documents enclosed envelope then the package didn't go through the slot with out a bit of a shove so it might need a little modification to pass through easily. Plastic mail bags and bubble seemed to be a thinner option to a mailite jiffy.
I had a little unexpected bonus today - I had ordered some bubblewrap with other bits and pieces from Viking, they sent me a huge roll foam sheet by mistake, it's so big it only just goes through the door. I phoned up and was told that it wasn't cost effective to pick it up and to keep it - it's worth around £27!!! AND they are bringing my bubblewrap tomorrow.
It's going to get used for wrapping my books etc so it will come in handy, the size is a bit of a bother, it's a bit like having R2D2 in the kitchen with me though....0 -

I can picture you know AT..being stalked by a roll of foam..everytime you turn round there it is
I think I may do more experiments then with plastic bags and a layer of bubble wrap and see what the post lady says about that.

" The experiment I did showed DVds in a jiffy would not go through easily " ... I thought as much Soolin - sneaky Royal mail have sussed that the volume of CD's, DVD's, PS2 games etc going through their system daily in jiffy's/mail-lite etc is a good little earner for them if they set the thickness limit @ 25mm - it just tips the vast majority into the new 'Packet' price band - I for 1 don't believe any of their rhetoric on the website about there being no backdoor postal increases - if you ask me Posties are complaining about weight and size issues [bulkier postbags] and someone at RM has had the bright idea of trying to profit from it.
I do my own packaging using small bubblewrap or foam + thinnish protective cardboard with a brown paper wrapping ... average CD is 20- 22 mm :>))))Learn to laugh at yourself ... everyone else has:rotfl:

Jeeze it is so quite here at the moment for me on Amazon I can hear a pin drop!
I am actually selling more on Greenmetropolis than on Amazon!!!!
And just to top it all a buyer from The Netherlands has contacted me to say a book I sent out 3 weeks ago via Airmail hasn't arrived yet - grrrrrr - I feel a refund coming on. At least the buyer is being friendly and not aggressive as some can be as they think you haven't actually posted it!
