  • Don't worry about the Zshops/ Marketplace thing, it's all Marketplace in effect (unless someone tells me different!)

    Hi Dude!

Marketplace is not z-shops. Marketplace is the place we list our books, CDs, VHS etc that are in the Amazon Catalogue.

Z-shops is/are this weird and wonderful place where if you sell anything it is a miracle.

    Here's the link http://s1.amazon.co.uk/exec/varzea/subst/home/fixed.html/202-9632378-2627849

Another way to 'explore' z-shops is to go to the 'welcome' page put something in the search bar and then pick z-shops in the drop down to the left hand side of the screen.

The problem with z-shops is that nobody really knows they are there. Many years ago the z-shop option was one of the tabs at the top of the 'welcome' page.

They are worth exploring if only to find out of print books that will sell for more on Ebay.

Here's an example of a search for Origin of Species http://s1.amazon.co.uk/exec/varzea/search-handle-url/202-9632378-2627849?%5Fencoding=UTF8&search-alias=zshops&field-status=open&index=zshops-uk&pg=1&nsp=bin-fields%01none%02spt%011&field-keywords=origin%20of%20species&sz=50 there are 1521 listed in the main market place and 50 in the z-shops. Most buyers will search for Origin of Species under books on the main site and find the 1521. However, it is probably the other 50 that are more interesting and will probably sell for more on Ebay.

    Here's one on z-shops - nicely hidden http://s1.amazon.co.uk/exec/varzea/ts/exchange-glance/Y07Y1214718Y5564798/202-9632378-2627849

Here's one that sold last week on Ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/The-Origin-of-Species-by-Darwin-printed-1902_W0QQitemZ180004705221QQihZ008QQcategoryZ93463QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I think the one on z-shops sounds in better nick than the one that sold on Ebay.

  • kat - chin up, I'm sure it will pick up again.
Cat - there's a ball park figure that we arrived at - for every 50 books you have for sale you might reasonably expect a sale per week, but if you read these threads for long enough you get to know that nothing is normal, you can have good spells and bad ones too and which ever one you're currently having you know that it will probably not last long.

    HI Guys
I just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone who posts on this thread. I have gone from someone who sold one book because I no longer needed it to a wanna be pro merchant (after my hols) who has 1500 books listed and is selling tons a week. My debts are reducing and although I'm pretty busy every day I feel I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. Without your help, support and tips I would never have got to this point and I am grateful to you all. I hope everyone has a great summer and a load of sales.
    Thanks again
    BFN

Annie, that's fantastic that you are doing so well... really pleased for you, and you are inspiring me to try and find some more books to list, although I am struggling to list all the ones I have at the moment!! Having been back at work (from mat leave) for all of two weeks, I have realised I really really really don't want to be there!!!

Whilst writing, I will have a little whinge, and see if the thread does its magic as my sales have been slow (as always!)

My sales have slowed a bit, I have actually dipped below the 33 a month which means I am sad:( so please send me all your positive thoughts for this week, would like some sales before I have to put my holiday settings on. I'm off on the QE2 for a week on saturday - very excited as never been on a cruise before - I paid for this cruise out of my sales - how exciting!

    Kat x

Kat - if anything can help me convince hubby that I need to buy more books (to sell of course, not read!!) this should!!! We love cruising (lucky enough to have been twice) - only problem is that it spoils you for any other holiday. Hope you have a fantastic time! Oh and positive thoughts on their way!!!

  • Hi Dude!

Yo Dude yourself! that cleared that up then....but do you have any idea what's going on with cutebabe's listings?

I have checked and it doesnt look like my 86p is being deducted. I have emailed them a couple of times with no response.

I've heard of this before on the Amazon discussion board. One of the solutions put forward was to completely log out and then log back in again.

    Might be worth a go.

Another way to check would be to do a trial listing and see what the final page just before the submission page says and compare it to one you have sold.

As a Pro Merchant if you sell a book for 75p your sold email would show the following:

    Buyer's Price: £0.75

    Postage & Handling: £2.75
    Total Amount: (£3.50)

    Less Amazon.co.uk Marketplace Fees: (£0.54)
Less VAT on Amazon.co.uk Marketplace: (£0.08)
    Total Due Seller: £2.88

It doesn't actually show the 86p anywhere, although maybe it does on a non PM sale???

If you want to post the buyer's price of a book I can tell you how much a PM will get - if you want a double check.

The only thing im confused about is my storefront now says no open listings. Do they needed to be listed as Zshops for them to appear here.

Don't get too excited about 'no open listings', it happens from time to time, the best way is to search for a book that you know you have for sale and see if your book is visible to buyers.

If you can't find any of your books on the used/new listings then it's time to get excited!!!

Just a question about becoming a Pro Merchant seller - Does the 86p selling fee stop being deducted straight away and does it apply to all current listings ... or is it only applicable to listings created after your pro merchant subscription starts.
Learn to laugh at yourself ... everyone else has:rotfl:

It stops being deducted straight away and it applies to all listing before and after you sign up.
