I never did until recently and it was mainly mould build up that was the problem for me (maybe because I don't use enough soap to get a build up of that) and I read somewhere (perhaps old style board or maybe something similar on another website) that if you do a hot wash once a month it keeps it at bay. Seems to be working so far but I'd be interested to know what you are doing differently to me (although I suppose it could depend on water supply as well).Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. This months Grand Designs has featured ecoballs which is claimed can be used up to a 1000 times instead of normal laundry detergents. They cost £34.95 from https://www.ecotopia.co.uk, which if is true would save you a small fortune long term.
Before I dip into this product though has anybody else bought these yet and do they say what the it says on the packet ?
Am all for anything green and helpful to the enviornment however seems to be a lot of gimmicks jumping on the green bandwaggon these days !!!!!
All advice grateful taken

Hi
I read aboutthese on here it is quite a long thread. I decided against them and went for the soapnuts which got quite a good rating on here and are very ecologically friendily. However I dont like them so are now going to try one of the ecologically friendily washing powders that was recommended on here- bio d. Ecover was also recommended but there was a bit of dispute about how ethically sound it was.
I am giving away some of the soapnuts if you want to try them just send me a sae.0 -
Cheers Cat72,
Soapnuts ? Not up to speed on these. Assume they are similar type ? Thanks for the kind offer but am waiting out on the verdict for these. Ref the bio products have just ordered new dishwasher ( i know, power drain etc but it is high tech one, less power and smallest amount of water used = higher price but worth it to keep good lady happy) so will be looking at eco spuds for this as well.
Any tips ?

I bought the eco friendly eco balls 6months ago and they are brill, the clothes come out soft and fresh smelling and they do not damage the fibres or colours of your clothes like washing powder does.Would recomend them.I wont go back to washing powder or liquids again0

Are these the same as the wash balls from Spirit of Nature? If so, then I agree they are totally brill - I use them all the time, but they are much cheaper on this site.

I have two small boys aged 4 and 1. They get dirty beyond belief because they love mixing mud pies. Do you think the washing balls would be powerful enough for their clothes. Many thanks.

HERE is the thread on the soapnuts. I foundabout all these things eco ball , soapnuts on these boards. Soapnuts are nuts, uhmn, from India I believe that are a natural , enviromental friendily washing product .You can use them in the dishwasher. The web site is here .
I dont like the smell unfortunately. If you get the eco balls let us know what you think.Being green is a bit of a minefield isnt it, constant questions and research and then you still wonder if you are doing the right thing0 -

Not sure lyniced, just had a look and big price difference. Not enough info on the description to confirm if same. How many washes do you get with these balls without having to change the pellets ? Do you have to put pellets in everytime you wash ?

I bought these a few months ago. Worked really well until my daughter was sick - all the washing came out smelling of sick. So I now use Ecover for anything very dirty and/or smelly but ecoballs for the rest of the washing. I'm going to go back to Bio D when the Ecover runs out as it comes out better on the 'ethical consumer' tests than Ecover.0
