Any scheme that is supposed to get you money but which asks you for a fee up front is a scam.

I think I got called by these people today. They said they were from 'PPI Claims Ltd', and wanted to give me back some money from a loan I'd had in the past. I'd figured out they were a scam by that point, but asked which loan to see how much info they had on me - turns out zippo; they cited Lloyds from 2005 and I've never banked with Lloyds.

I said I thought they were running a scam and would therefore hang up on them, and they called me a f*cking p*ki. So i logged a call with the police.

It was actually quite funny - I'm about as white as you can get, while the caller had a very strong Asian accent - but anyone who's being nasty and racist like that could easily upset someone.

I think this must be the new scam. I've recently had numerous calls from people with differing degrees of Indian accent but who all give me english names. When I dial 1471 after the calls, I get the message 'we do not have the caller's number to return the call' which indicates the calls come from abroad, as if a number is withheld in the UK it will say 'the caller withheld their number'.

Each time they call they tell me I took out a personal loan in 2005 (it's always 2005 for some reason). In fact I didn't, but I've been called so many times by them insisting that I took out a loan that I began to wonder if I somehow did take out a loan (I didn't)! When I tell them that what they're saying is inaccurate, they ask if I've taken out any insurances, etc. In fact their accents can be so bad, that I can't always work out what it is they're asking me. They don't usually get round to asking me for my bank or card details because they usually hang up because of my response. I'm fed up with them repeatedly ringing however. It's obviously a call centre as when I answer there's silence and a ringing tone, until someone comes on the line.

The first time they rang, I answered on the upstairs extension but my husband had also picked up the phone downstairs. He then began speaking too. It seemed to unnerve the caller that there were two people on the line and we were having a conversation between ourselves as well as asking her questions. Rather irritably, she asked to speak to only one person. We both then started putting questions to her and she said "What the f*ck is this?" and hung up! It's not enough that they phone you at home and try to trick you, but they become abusive too, and there's no way you can ring back to take it up with them.
  • I just received a call from "Simon" (yeh right) from UK Claims. I had the same sort of experience, a pause when I picked up the phone and then a ring tone before he started speaking so I knew he was calling from abroad. When I was trying to tell him that I was registered with the TPS he was talking over me and at one point told me to shut up and listen! He kept saying that if I had a car accident I could claim and then I lost the plot and shouted at him that even if I had been involved in an accident I certainly wouldnt be using his company and that I would be reporting them. He argued for quite a while before hanging up. This is really worrying. These people are really bold and are really rude and if someone old or unsure of themselves gets them on the phone, the outcome might not be very good.:(

Just had loads of these one after the other. Really scary and sinister.

  • My call was from a Jessica Morgan at UK National Claimline (highly dubious as she sounded oriental, calling me Miss with my christian name pronounced painfully wrong). They have a cheque for my mischarged PPI of £3250 which will be delivered to my door at 12.30. I must pay in the cheque and they will then take a £200 courier charge seven days later. I told her that no-one is taking any money out of my account and then she became aggressive. She works for the government and has been for 5 years... I obviously don't need the money if I won't pay a small fee... Above board then seeing that she is just being plain rude? I hung up after shouting at her that the fact that she keeps talking over me just shows that it's a scam... ;)
Don't be conned - they don't have access to your financial information without your permission...! Waste their time just as they are wasting yours.

I also had a call from UK Claims and Finance Department who 'would help me get some incorrect charges refunded to me'. I made a point of asking him to repeat the 'company' name several times, then kept him discussing the difference between a dept and a company. Then asked for his name again or 'customer agent number'...... Eventually he realised I was just wasting his time and he slammed the phone down.

My belief is the longer I keep these scammers talking, the fewer calls they can make, and the less money they get, and the fewer people they can hurt.

The phone number they used was 0225 680 0256

This evening I received a call from a man with strong Indian accent claiming to represent 'UK Claims Dept' of Eastbourne . He said I had a refund of Bank charges due from Year 2000 and amounting to over £5,000. Overpayment of bank & credit card charges. He knew my address and name. He quoted the first four numbers of my Debit Card and wanted me to quote the rest so he could verify my claim. He claimed they were working on behalf of the High Court. I refused to give him what he asked for suspecting a scam as I knew that such sums were fiction. I kept him talking for nearly half an hour before he finally rang off without warning, during which time I had Googled their name and it came up with possible scam from this Forum. A 1471 came up with the phone no. 00441241254786

    I approve of Sharperson's approach.

  • I just received a call from 'united kingdom of claims and finance department' that the caller said was working on behalf of the UK Government to reclaim money that i was overcharged by banks and suppliers. He wanted to confirm how i wished to receive the money (in my bank etc) and it could be many £1000s !
I said it sounds like a scam!
He said they are based in suffolk and needs to check my personal details to verify me. I wanted to verify him first though but could not get anywhere, so the call ended.

That has scam written all over it. First of all the name is farcical and secondly there is no Government body dealing with complaints of that nature.

Another common scam method. They are trying to appeal to your greed. i.e. you have thousands waiting for you but we need your bank details. You get so caught up in money coming your way that you give the bank details and they can use them to commit fraud.
He said they are based in suffolk and needs to check my personal details to verify me.

They rang you so they know who you are. Your bank details dont verify you.

It is a scam. It is so obviously a scam though. Not even a good one.
