It is a real shame that all smokers aren't provided with a bag around their head so they can polute their own air space only.

Not long now. Their rights are slowly being eroded. :)

on a flight last year the pilot remided everyone on the pa that smoking was not permitted.

then said that unfortunately one of the passengers had just tried to kill us all by ignoring this in the toilet.

he then gave the passengers seat number "should anyone want to ask him why he tried to kill us all"

i think the guy got the message! didn't see any police on landing.

In glass bottles, even in the immediate aftermath of september 11 2001. But not OK to carry on a a modern safety razor.
Wrong, you can carry on a safety razor.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

If you cast your mind back though, it was always prohibited to smoke whilst in the aisles or lavatories, for safety reasons. If someone goes in the loo for a crafty fag, there may not be any immediate danger in most people's eyes, but if they don't dispose of the butt properly and a fire breaks out in say a waste paper bin, the fire could rapidly spread and in worst case scenario, bring down the aircraft, so it certainly isn't as trivial matter as some would have you believe. As an ex flight attendant, we were told in no uncertain terms, you have approx 3 mins to gain control of a fire on board in mid air, otherwise it's curtains.

    Example:

So next time you fly and you're "DYING" for a fag, don't be tempted!

    WOW! = makes you think!

A Spanish chap in front of me on a Ryanair went for a sneaky cig in the toilet. The stewardesses reported him to the captain but he just got off with a stiff warning

Well of course, having the Police meet the aircraft and arrest a troublesome passenger, and then have to take statements from crew would seriously inhibit one's 20 minute turnaround....

Again, what is the relevance re alcohol sales in relation to this thread ??

Because everyone is suggesting that the " smoker " was a danger to others,

I would sooner be on a plane under those circumstances than on a plane full of pi**ed up passengers, which is often the case these days.:(

Not at all wrong. I was stopped in late 2001.

Their right to smoke does not overrule my right not to be put at risk or suffer an unpleasant experience. Smoking was allowed on the London Underground and then the Kings Cross fire happened. Passive smoking is now well proven as a risk - but some smokers still fight for their 'right' to smoke in a tin box with their kids breathing it all in while being driven around.

Smoking is not about rights, it's about addicts wheedling and whining to protect their next fix. Not dissimilar to what other drug addicts will do to score.

Before anyone comes back with the line about smoking being legal, as opposed to say heroin use - well not on planes it's not and the sooner it's not in any public space (or even private space in the presence of children, the better).
The force is strong in this one!
