Was on a Qatar flight from Doha to Bangkok and the bloke behind me started making all this noise and screaming so the air attendands all ran to see if something was wrong next thing is the announcment is there a Doctor or Nurse on the plane, after a while we noticed his friend who was sat beside him came back to the seat and the guy calmed down. Next thing the air attendants were back questioning the friend if he was smoking in the toilets as the sensors had picked it up and he stunk of fags, he denied it.
About an hour later bloke got up went to the toilet his mate then repeated the whole moaning, groaning and screaming till the other one came back from the toilets, one of the attendants caught him coming out of the toilets after the sensors had picked up again that someone was smoking. He denied it, said that the smell of smoke wasn't from him that it was from ME !!!!! who was sitting in front of them.
The attendants knew fine rightly it hadn't been me but questioned me anyway, had I been to the toilets etc.., ones round me vouched that I hadnt even been up out of the seat for a while, so couldnt possibly be.
So the flight lands in Bangkok and nothing these pair just get off the plane with no consequences whatsoever. But as we were getting of someone else who had witnessed the whole thing said that after a while he had seen the guy reach down his underpants and pull out the fags and that they'd told the attendant but they couldn't care less.
So it would appear fly with the middle eastern airlines, if you want a fag have one, blame someone else and you'll get away with it.
And that wasn't the only weird thing that happend on the particular flight, its one of those flights I will never ever forget, and I'll never fly with Qatar again ! just incase0 -

Not pleasant for the non-smokers, but not a problem then for the airline concerned - how time have changed!
:rotfl:
But then - no one had even heard of "second hand smoking" and I think we often confuse "safety" as setting the plane on fire, when, although that is an aspect, the biggest reason is second hand smoking in an enclosed environment and (in the case of US aircraft especially) the law suits that blame airline because someone may have contracted lung cancer in an aircraft - BTW I think it carries a max of 6 years in prison for a UIS registered aircraft or other aircraft flying to the US.C. The whole thing looked like a bit an over-reaction to me, but then again, when it comes to safety on a flight in mid-air .....?
I was just wondering what happens to them afterwards. Does the smoker who got caught get a caution, get fined, locked up and prosecuted? And what happens to his mate. I should imagine he'll be all right as it didn't look like he was arrested.
In short, this guy broke the law by smoking on the aircraft at a time when it is not permitted, and by not obeying a command of the captain (well, in this case the cabin crew acting on behalf of the captain). He may have also broken the smoking in public places law, although not sure if that applies in flight. I suspect he will be charged and get the appropriate punishment.
With regards to it being over the top, its just the only practical way to deal with it. He's broken the law, the only reasonable way to have him arrested is to get airport police to meet the aircraft. If you let him get off he could be through the terminal and out before the crew have chance to identify him to police. Oh, and airport Police carry big guns, so it always looks far more dramatic than it usually is!0 -
apparently easyjet don't like you taking dead relatives on board either !!:rotfl:

Apparently he had a terminal illnessANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0 -
But of course it is OK for the airports and airlines to sell alcohol to passengers.:(0

I believe there have been a lot of lawsuits involving ex cabin crew suing airlines for getting lung cancer from passive smoking on flights where smoking was allowed for many years.0

Changing the issue slightly here, but at work there are people who can't apparently last half an hour without a cig break yet think nothing of flying off to Mexico/Florida etc and seem to manage perfectly well for however many hours that may be.0

Years ago, I was on a flight... it was either British Midland or BA, I cant quite remember
The flight attendants came round with duty free.
The woman in the seat in front of me, bought 200 cigarettes.
She then proceeded to open them, as if she was going to light one up.
The flight attendant, told her that she was not allowed to smoke on the flight....
She went a little OTT with the guy, putting on a right show, in an extremly loud voice, saying that why was he selling her fags if she wasn't allowed to smoke them... and it was a riduculous expectation that she should wait until she was within the terminal building ect ect.
The flight attendant was brilliant in his reply.
He calmly stated, in an equally loud voice
"Well Madame, if you buy condoms in Boots, due you expect to use them then and there also ?":rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
She promplty sat down, and did not move the rest of the flight. :rotfl::rotfl:0
