    Morning all

I'm reading a book called "total Money Makeover" by a guy calle Dave Ramsey (who is the American version of Martin) and it was interesting to note that Pay Day loan companys in some American states have been outlawed, Payday loans to Forces personnel have a been limited in the amount of interest charged and limits on interest have been put in place in other States.

is this why they have flooded here? Isn't it time our Government stepped in?

Dave Ramsey calls them trash lenders. How true is that!

I wish I had read this book ten years ago, it would have made such a difference too
my life. Would I have listened to the message though?

    Probably not.

Love the honesty E2. As you say easy to look back and say if only. The important thing is that we are now all moving forward, hoorah!

    Hiya

Has anybody taken on, or considered, a second job?

I was thinking maybe of knuckling down and doing something (pizza delivery?!) to save up to maybe do F & F or something. Maybe do another job for a year or so.

I'm sort of thinking out loud really.

    Anybody any thoughts or advice?

  • HI Eyeopener

That's exactly what I was talking about in a few posts back where I had gone for interviews in my old company as a customer service advisor and I could have started this evening, but unfortunately they have put my start date back indefinitely because I would be mid training by the time I was going on my 2 weeks holiday.

It would have been 20 hours a week at £6 odds an hour. I'm gutted I have to wait now but at least it is hopefully still in front of me.

My reasoning was the same as yours try and get through this a little quicker ... even though I'm not supposed to be working any more hours for health reasons but I kinda feel needs must in this situation!!

Like you all of the money earned extra would be going into savings so I could offer full and final settlements.

I think the Government are looking at this I maybe wrong but I am sure I read it somewhere.

    Hi E2

I tried some mystery shopping but it is pennies after paying tax and not sustainable given the very long hours in my day job.

    Good luck

Thats my biggest concern really, I work long hours as it is, have a small child, never mind the other stuff in life.

    Mmmmm.

Maybe it isn't really that sensible and I just need to relax a bit (take my own advice) and let the DP take its course.

    Mmmmmmm

  • Hi Eyeopener

As I said earlier, I have actually taken that step and am hopefully now just waiting for a new time to start my 2 evenings and 1 weekend day asap after my hols but I can see both sides of the story.

Healthwise, I really should not be taking on any extra work and my hubbie is not best pleased with my decision to go ahead anyway but the way I looked at it was that this extra debt, whilst it is being sorted currently, is causing me extra stress and hardship which I could currently do without. So from my point of view, I've weighed it on the scales and taking an extra part-time job has come out more favourable than NOT taking an extra job - if you know what I mean?

However, if I find it is all too much for me, I can always leave it anytime I feel like it and go back to just concentrating on my main job. I personally want to try this first and hope that the extra pennies can all go towards full an final payments and can take another element of stress off my little brain!!!

You won't truly know until you try but go through the pros and cons yourself in your head or write them down (whatever your reasons are) and then make your decision from there.:)

I think the issue of balance you refer to Mephista is a good one. And as you say sometimes it's the less of two evils. It's good if you can do something that you don't feel obliged to continue with if it is not working out. For me, my health and day job were suffering so the disadvantages were drastically outweighing any small advantage.

Good luck with the second job

    We will get there :-)
