Barclaycard have finally replied to my letter.

They've passed me on to their financial difficulties team :rotfl: and they'll be in touch. They also go on to say they've enclosed a income expenditure form and to fill that in and return. I thought CCCS gave them all that info? Anyone any thoughts on what to do with that? I'm thinking of writing back telling them to contact CCCS for that info. But in the letter I sent them I asked for a refund of charges applied since starting the DMP (they've been adding on £24 a month for the last year), so I'm not sure - any advice greatly appreciated!! ;)

Also I only realised recently (please - no lectures) that there's PPI on the account so I had a moan about that in the letter, asked them to cancel and refund it. I know that's not the proper way of doing it, but thought what the heck as I was writing to them anyway. So they've sent the PPI questionnaire as well but because I didn't know it was even on the account in the first place how am I supposed to answer questions such as 'When was the policy sold?'

We've had this card for years and I think it was originally a Morgan Stanley so I doubt they've got any info anyway.

Oh and then they go on to say i'll have an update on my complaint by Feb 14th (Monday!)

I would contact CCCS and get them to send Barclaycard a copy of your income/expenditure ASAP. I would write to Barclaycard and advise them that CCCS will be intouch with a copy of your statement of affairs and until they receive this can they freeze the charges being applied to your account. Send a copy of this letter to CCCS so they are aware of what you are doing.

Hope this helps you remember not to sign anything.

Good Luck and keep us posted I am still awaiting a reply from Barclaycard and I enclosed a statement of affairs with my letter so it will be interesting to see what response they give me.

  • Thanks Mikon, going to wait til Monday, see if they send me anything else, but I'm going to do pretty much as you suggested.

Will be trying to claim back the PPI as well.

Make sure you let us know how you get on too, seeing a lot of people complaining about barclaycard round here lately, strange thing is between us we have 3 credit cards and they've stopped interest and charges on the other two, but not on this one which is a really small debt compared to the others.

    Hello everybody,

I have been making a token payment of £5 to my creditors. Until Dmp starts.

Have been reading that I should have set a letter with this advising of dmp. I thought pay plan would do this, but they are waiting for first payment.

First payment due 1st March. Should I send a letter in meantime- PLS advice.

    (any templates)

    Thanks guys:D

It won't do any harm to write a letter advising them of what is going to happen, when its going to happen, who to contact and the telephone number for that person - also your Payplan/CCCS reference. That way they have absolutely no excuse to contact them directly.

I was lucky in that, once I decided to go down this road, I was unemployed at the time so I was able to phone them directly and inform them of the sitatuion but also put it in writing so that I had proof that something had happened to me and a DMP plan with Citizens advice was my only option at that point.

Sometimes I got copies of letters which were sent to Citizens Advice Bureau but that was fine as i just kept them for my records but didn't have to deal with them.

Once payplan have kicked in and organised everything for you, everything will settle down.

Your minimum payments are more than enough. I was a bad girl and paid nothng for 3 mths to give me time to get sorted in my unemployment period. I informed them of this but said that regular monthly payments to them would commence on a particular date monthly through direct debit and then asked them to make sure tat i was giving my bank detialsso athat I could pay out of.

I dont know if this is good advice but it worked for me.

Hi there, me and a few of the guys on here used this with success a while back:

    Dear Sir/Madam

    Account number: ****************

Since making the above mentioned agreement with you my circumstances have changed.

I do want to repay my debts but at the present time I am not in the position to pay the minimum monthly payments. I have recently joined Payplan who offer a non fee-charging debt management plan, which I hope to start on May 1st. (ID no: ********)

In the interim month or so I shall make a token monthly payment(s) of £20 as a sign of good faith. As soon as I have updated my situation and the Debt management plan is fully set up I / Payplan will contact you again.

As other people answer the telephone who are not aware of my situation, ie, my children. I would ask that all correspondence between us should be in writing.

I hope this is acceptable on a temporary basis.

    Yours faithfully

    Good luck. PP

This is a perfect starter for 10 and you can adapt it to suit your circumstances.

The National debtline letters are also pretty good as pointed out by the others.

If you've done them up but still aren't sure, you could always post a copy of them on here and we can have a look at it for you and give it the okay or some pointers for changes?

Might as well use the expertise of all of us DMP'ers on here.:D

    Can I have a moan?

Chuffin Santander wrote to me today, nothing unusual in this I get a letter at least once a week, saying I am in arrears with my personal loan and bla, blah. blah.

    You know the score.

However this included a statement that has to be the most complicated thing I have ever seen (and I work in Finance (ahem)).

The upshot of it is that my balance at the moment is £200 more than I thought it was, i think it's the way interest is calculated, as I now have an arrears account and a loan account! As I underpay my loan each month the difference is moved to an arrears account. I have £1900 in the loan account and £700 in the arrears account, which increases every month.

I have never seen anything like this and it's annoying. And no, I don't understand it.

Nothing I can do about it but I had to have a moan.

    Ah well.

  • Santander seem to be amongst the greediest of the heavies! You should seek clarification - see if they can explain it!!!

Betcha you'll probably be passed around a few before you can get an answer.
