One thing to bear in mind - EBICO don't bill standing-charges.

Other companies have indeed reduced their gas prices recently (per unit used). However, if another thread on here is anything to go by, some of them seem to have also massive increased their standing-charge rates!

I don't see why reducing cconsumption should increases prices too much in the long term. So many plants etc need totally replacing and that would be an incredible cost.

Less consumption = less new power stations to build.

I guess less consumption also means less potential total profits do to a smaller market. Basically I think prices would go up both if we reduce consumption AND also if we didn't.

Ebico don't build power stations ;)

However, as mattcanary says, ebico don't make customers pay any separate standing charges (but will incur these themselves). Therefore when consumption decreases, the loading on their unit prices to cover these charges increases.

But presumably these charges have been built into the tracking model they said they would follow in 2007- ie we will be x% above/below the charge of x company and when prices incresase they track and when prices decrease they track? What I cant understand is why they say they will track and now wont- they have made no statement to say that this is to stop...seems to be a breach of contract at worst...at best just plain shoddy/greedy

Presumable as they have had to freeze prices as customers have reduced their consumption by 10%, by the time 10% customers have gone elsewhere they will have to raise their prices, something is not adding up.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I agree. Its just poor show from a company that trades on its ethical principles cant be honest about what is happening

I think you misunderstood the statement about price moves.

Ebico have never said they would track another supplier's price at x% above/below. They've never done that since the statement. I never heard any shouts of annoyance when they increased their prices by less % than SSE.

What they were saying was that prior to that statement, they often kept prices fixed, even though the majority of other supplier where changing their prices ... and that included at least one occasion where Ebico held their prices when the general market were reducing theirs. In fact before that statement< I think they only changed prices twice in previous 7 years since they had started trading. Ebico said they wanted to try and stabilise prices for consumers at the time.

However, they looked again at that policy which clearly didn't benefit consumers at times of falling prices. That is when they issued that statement. It doesn't say they will track another suppliers price at x% difference, but merely that they will 'benchmark' (or review) their prices as & when SSE change their prices.

That they have always done since the statement, and clearly have done so this time too, but on this occasion that review resulted in there being no change in actual price.

I think they have misled customers....most customers would take benchmarking as a kind of tracking.....the benchmarking statement was an answer to the problem of people being upset when prices were put up...I cant understand whay ebico has gone quiet and wont answer questions....and "they have never answered questions" is not good enough

    What do you mean?

When I emailed Ebico in January regarding the £12 credit they were giving to PPM gas customers, they quickly responded. In fact I even had a response from their MD after a couple of hours, having requested the matter be reviewed again.

I know that was back in January, but only the other day I called them to question an issue on my gas bill and they answered that.

How have you tried to contact Ebico?
Contact details are available on their website.

I've emailed them just before they made the announcement on Facebook. I never received a reply.

When you phone about billing queries, your calls are actually answered by Southern Electric and not Ebico.
