Just seen a message on FB from Ebico to say they're not going to reduce their engergy prices as previously stated! they say -

"I am sorry to announce that we are no longer going to be able to reduce our energy price as previously stated. Our customers have been much better at reducing the amount of energy they have been using than we calculated, meaning a reduction can’t be sustained at this time. Our average customer uses about 10% less energ...y than in 2008, saving some £90 off their bills. On behalf of Ebico I apologise for the error."

looks like checking the price comparison sites for an alternative then :p

This answer is very telling. An energy company admitting that prices will have to remain higher then they would have been otherwise due to customers reducing their energy consumption.

Thats right energy efficiency messures will result in higher energy prices. All the energy saving lightbulbs, loft insullation, condensing boilers, etc will result in higher prices for customers.

    What is the point?

    What shareholders?
Ebico has spent the last 10 years putting our customers before our profits. With no shareholders to keep happy, we don't have to deal out dividends to anyone. Instead, we put all our resources into providing EquiGas and EquiPower tariffs at fair rates (by fair we mean the same for every user, no matter how you chose to pay) as well as funding local and nationwide fuel poverty initiatives with National Energy Action, Groundwork UK and Oxford University.

  • Just checked Ebico comes fourth on the list for my consumption so I'll stick where I am.

Hmm, I am happy with Ebico ethics & simplicity of billing, but I will have to check out comparison sites now, but a low user I suspect like "A fiend for life" I may get same results

    I happily stand corrected.

They still come out 3rd cheapest for me. The two cheaper tariffs both have exit fees (which I don't want) and require direct debit payment.

I think it goes to show that if a non-profit supplier is unable to reduce their prices, the media (et al) are being very one sided by trying to force energy companies to reduced their prices.

Its a great shame as they have a simple pricing policy.
Looks like the model has failed.
As customers leave in droves they will become progressively uncompetitive.

Is it always about price on things?

I am with Ebico and don't care that they are not the first cheapest on the list on a comparison site. When ever I ring up they are courteous and helpful and have an ethical non-shareholder approach. I think that is worth the extra money to not line the pockets of any shareholders no matter how cheap the competition are.

There are too many tariffs and too many suppliers. It all needs simplifying.

So from your argument, if the extra money is not going to shareholders where is it going? Presumably Southern Energy as they do the billing and supply the energy in the first place.
