You could try Ovo, though they do have a standing charge.
Last quarter bills are difficult for everyone.
Despite Ebico being way down on my own comparison, once the low usage pattern has been taken into account, only three can better Ebico.
Ovo is one and a cashbac k is available on another.

i was with Ebico for my electricity up untill 15 months ago, i am a lightish user.
I had a prepaymnet meter and was putting in about £7 a week, then all of a sudden it went mental, I was not using any more leccy but was putting in £12 a week. it took me ages to get any rebates from southern electric, it actually took 2 months of phone calls to get one rebate of £68. rebate was 1 and only in 2 years!
Anyway i thought something was not right, I had enough and decided to switch to British gas, i was with them for a week and got my meter switched to a normal one and set up click 6 on direct debit. I was paying them £40 a month and thought its not much better but we will see what happens. I've been slack and have not read my meter since January 2009 but phoned them today with a meter reading, after fifteen months of £40 a month I am £136 in credit ! and I think i have used more leccy than when i was with Ebico!
They have dropped my monthly payment to £18, next bill in 6 months. I am happy. very glad I switched.
Ebico i think are very expensive and im sorry but somethings not right .

ebico always have been expensive for electricity and seem to be heading that way for gas
  • I like Ebico I like the general billing they offer e. same price as DDEB.

Everyone was singing their praises about how good they were offering great prices and as soon as they don't reduce prices everyone is leaving. Yes competition is high but when prices start to rise again PP customers will have to face the full impact with perhaps no ebico. People say there is no loyalty in companies but there is no loyalty in customers anymore either.

Ebico are a honest company and I would hate to see them cease business.

PS and anyone thinking atcostenergy will be a whirlwind think again.

Thats what I used to think but I remember that Ebico released the statement I have reproduced above, they promised to peg the price of gas and electric and match rises/falls. I have not had any email to say that they no longer do this, I have searched their website/press releases and archive press releases and nothing to retract this statment can be found. I have emailed to ask if this statment/promise is still in place or has been removed and have had no reply. If ebico are honest then they should either keep their promise and move prices in line with southern electrics moves or make it clear that this promise nolonger exists....at a minimum they should answer customers perfectly valid questions.
I used to think they were honest but Im not so sure now

Their company rep is conspicious by their absence.

I have had cause to mail their MD but have not had the courtesy of a reply.

EBICO were never very promt at replying to e-mails, and it was impossible to talk to them on the phone, as they never answered it, nor returned messages left on their answerphone.

Ebico buy their energy from SSE who also operate the billing system.

I was with Ebico for a couple of years but had to make the switch in January because of their uncompetitive prices.

This answer is very telling. An energy company admitting that prices will have to remain higher then they would have been otherwise due to customers reducing their energy consumption.

Thats right energy efficiency messures will result in higher energy prices. All the energy saving lightbulbs, loft insullation, condensing boilers, etc will result in higher prices for customers.

    What is the point?

I don't see why reducing cconsumption should increases prices too much in the long term. So many plants etc need totally replacing and that would be an incredible cost.

Less consumption = less new power stations to build.

I guess less consumption also means less potential total profits do to a smaller market. Basically I think prices would go up both if we reduce consumption AND also if we didn't.
