Ebico now not reducing their energy price!

So from your argument, if the extra money is not going to shareholders where is it going? Presumably Southern Energy as they do the billing and supply the energy in the first place.
To be fair Penrhyn, much as we all like the ethos of Ebico, their pricing structure used only suited the very low user and/or people on pre-pay or not paying by DD.
Giving no discounts for DD or dual fuel they really are now just not competitive.
Even for someone with just one third of the UK average consumption(7,000/1100kWh gas/elect) they are 25% more expensive than the cheapest tariff.
They simply don't have the clout to compete with the BIG 6 in buying power and the economies of scale yet again win.
It seems to me their niche in the market has just been filled.0 -

Well the Libs Dems have a policy for removing tiered tariffs though it is more likely to be swiped by another party than the liberals getting in.0 -
The Consumer Focus comparison for me show OVO at the top, by £30.

No doubt you spoke to someone at Scotish and Southern. I found that some of their call centre staff knew nothing about EBICO, and only saw a differnt S & S tariff. One reason I moved from EBICO after getting poor service.
It would be nice to hear from the EBICO rep on this report, especially as they have not posted on this site recently. Have EBICO shed admin staff?0 -
My Gas bill with ebico on Prepayment is about £10 a month and about £15 for electric on their prepayment.
What I find odd with some companies is that they charge less per unit the more you use.
Yet we are supposed to be encouraged to use less energy??? As far as I can tell anyway. On some tariffs using more costs less. Surely ti would be better to have the first units cheaper then further units more expensive to encourage people to use less energy.
I would like to look into Solar power and heating for the home as I read you can re-sell your suprluss energy to the grid.0 -
Big thread on here somewhere, Karate, started by Cardew,
Have downloaded Lib Dems manifesto,Fiend, interesting reading. Also mentions simpler tariffs, and Winter Fuel Allowance to come in at 65 rather than 60.
Sad day if Ebico go to the wall. Not just about price.0 -
I thought Ebico had tied their prices to Scotish and Southern +/- a certain percentage. They used to review prices once a year (I think it was) and I thought they changed to having a tracker system to stop this problem, have they changed their minds/systems?0

Just found this on their website
Pricing Statement
At EBICo, in addition to ensuring that we offer the fairest electricity and gas prices in the UK, we’ve also always tried to keep our prices stable – overall that means cheaper – rather than constant changes in price which costs customers money. Over the past 4 years, on average our competitors have changed their prices 7 times – and most of those were increases. In the same period we’ve moved the price of EQUIGAS and EQUIPOWER on just 2 occasions. However, we know that recently other companies have put their prices down. And we want you to know that we have been thinking about how to do the best for you the customer. So we are pleased to announce that we will now ‘benchmark’ the price of EQUIGAS and EQUIPOWER. Essentially what this means is that we’ll match the moves that Scottish and Southern Energy make to their general gas and electricity tariffs. We believe that in benchmarking our prices to those of a major energy company whilst at the same time continuing our not for profit ethos – which means us not having to return money to shareholders – we can continue to deliver competitive prices and help those for whom paying for energy is a major headache. If we can make your home energy package better value we will, and we are always looking for ways to do this. EQUIGAS and EQUIPOWER will continue to remain the best deal for pre-payment meter holders and our promise remains; to be fair, honest, and the cheapest we can.

I wonder if they still benchmark the price then?0
