hmmmn interesting.. I think I see where you're coming from, but also kinda disagree because I hate things going to waste and especially on a planner as thrifty as this one!

as a compromise, how about the recipe uses up the juice, but gives a possible alternative for those who are cherry-picking the recipes?

I just went to taste the juice and it's a syrupy vinegary stock with a lovely taste of red peppers. I'm not sure what would substitute... possibly a nice vegan stock with a little sugar/honey and a splash of balsamic vinegar?

I agree, I wouldn't want to waste it. I use vinegar from pickled beetroot in cake making because I don't want to waste it, so I definately know where your coming from and for anyone wondering, they don't turn out pink or taste of vinegar or beetroot!
I like the idea of giving an alternative for those cherry picking recipes. As I didn't make it tonight, I shall try to find some red peppers just so I can do it your way, but if not I will try the stock with sugar/bal vinegar. I shall have to save 2 tbsp next time I make up stock. I guess this would also make it difficult as people wouldn't want to make up just 2 tbsps of stock. I wonder is we could just use balsamic vinegar with sugar, just thinking out loud here, have no idea really. I work next to Aldi, but they don't sell them in there, had a look today, so I shall have to wait until I next go shopping at Morrisons.

    Beddybies for me now

DI'd the chicken liver taste like

Not sure quite what you are asking but it tasted of liver but not nearly as strong as the pigs liver did. Meaty taste and a little would go a long way I dont think i would spread it too thick on toast so would still be quite cheap.
Hope this is the kind of answer you were looking for xx

Evening. I left DD2 to make the raisin biscuits. Some look a little burnt but there enough ok looking ones to cover me until I can make something else.

My bread is in the oven and I'm enjoying an 'offplan' beer :)

poohbear I made the Lunch Time Pate this evening. My DH loves it. DD2 likes it. I like it. The others have yet to try it but I'm hoping it will be more successful than the other sandwich fillers.

Murrell and everyone thanks. A brief explanation was all I needed. We are having the pasta amatriciana tonight. I havent tried it before but it is very similar to one I would make anyway.

Just been to the gym and weighed myself, it was not a very pleasant suprise so will not be snacking at all from now on!!! Without snacks I should be on calorie-wise?

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

without any of the snacks the bob and shirl planner is approx 1600-1700 cals daily arty.

It depends too how frequently you are having the nut butter for brekkie, as that's the most calorie-heavy breakfast spread :)

I'm sure you look lovely anyhow :)

!!!!!! this is very naughty of you, there is definitely no goat on the bob and shirley planner:naughty::naughty::naughty:
you will make us all jealous

    :rotfl:

shanks, your liver pate sounds good :) I think chicken livers are lovely in pate too:D

Arty I was looking for cheap flasks in case we recommend that shirley take soups to work with her. And I believe I may have found the inspiration for the new daleks in the form of the flask called Halsa:

DH thinks that a standard pizza served without cheese (planner 3) would be a disappointment to a 'not usually a vegan but giving it a go' type Bob.

So I'm thinking of a calzone, with our usual rich tomatoey oniony sauce, but also a white bechamel which oozes out when you cut into it and which is garlicky and mustardy. I've been testing a few versions, including one with a little coconut cream to mimick the mouthfeel of a cheesy sauce, but we're still definitely at the prototype only stage with that one!

    Will let you know!

But if anyone fancies a little experimental muck about with white sauces, it's flour, mustard, salt, pepper, garlic, lemon juice (and coconut cream!) to play with :rotfl:

    some thoughts about seasonings etc...

Hi there, one last thing before I do some more work for the boys.

I thought it would be useful if I explained my thinking about the cost of seasonings/spices etc. We are not 'counting' the cost of some of these in the meal planners.

Doubtless when we launch this, some people will say this is cheating or not doing what we've said. But it is! I just can't think how to explain it in simple enougfh terms that people don't switch off! Can anyone help?

SusanC you are good at succinct summaries, can you help I wonder? :)

Here's the reason it's ok not to 'count' the seasonings:

I've assumed a 31 day month. Each day's food at 80p a day, means that each day 'costs' the family of 4 £3.20.

but half the months of the year have fewer days, so you don't need as much food, you'd be providing 7 days too much food if you ran the 31 day planner for a whole year. Therefore this is too much by £22.40 per year. My thought has always been that Bob and shirley will use this surplus cash (£1.80 ish a month) for seasonings. So that's why they aren't included, but the planner is still £100 per month. Does that make sense?

Can anyone help me phrase this in a way which will make it clear for people but not too complicated or mathsy?

    xxx

    Off topic:

Last night I dreamt that weezl and mr weezl and the boys came to visit me. Weezl looked like my aunt and was about 50stone. You said it was the downside of the planner that after testing all the meals you were now a ''rollypolly lady'' lol. Then Allegra was talking to my mum and said she didnt like weezl because she didnt soak her peas for long enough.

After being very confused by all this, I looked at the window and we were on a big spaceship flying in space!!!

Then thankfully I woke up!! lol

This may be a premonition so Weezl and Allegra dont fall out!!:eek::D

Me thinks less time thinking about what Im cooking and watching Dr Who is on the cards lol:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
