I have just realised that tonight's dinner is similar to yesterdays (suet pastry) so I am going to make the pasta alfredo today. DH always tells me not to worry if we have pastry, pasta, rice etc. two days in a row but I have some sort of mental block about it. I have to give them variety.

    hornetgirl your bread looks scrummy!

I am not following this plan to the letter as I have my own hens. Only three girls but they are providing an egg a day each now. What we should probably do is figure in the cost of the hen food.

arty Some of the vegans I know are much healthier than me. They are quite careful with their diet and also don't have the saturated /trans fat issue. I have to admit when we took our boys (when they were very young) to a vegan household for dinner they tucked in to all the veggies and pulses just as they would do at home then asked if there was any butter for the bread!!

My bread is rising. My DH likes the pate...(yay!) Not made anything else...spent the day lazing about with my DH cause all the kids were back at school.

I'll need to do something about snacks, though, cause otherwise I may have a riot!

weezl I haven't tried the biscuits yet. Are they quick to make? Could I make up the dough and then cook them later this evening?

the time consumingest bit was cutting pretty heart shapes frankie! If you just do splats and then squish them with the back of the spoon I reckon maybe 15-20 mins prep plus cooking time :)

edit: or roll out and then cut squares with a knife?

Just had the bacon pudding and it was as good as last week. Defrosted it last night and heated it up in the oven had with wedges and it was lovely.
Forgot to make the hummous last night so whilst i was taking the dog for a quick walk this morning i made the bean pate and had that for lunch. Will def try to make the hummous tonight though as giving my friend tastes of things i am making.
Hornetgirl your bread looks lovely look forward to hearing how it tastes. My wholemeal bread turned out well and ex loves it.

nut roast recipe- planner 3 (possibly planner 2 too if folk like it :))

      • Oil for frying
      • 2 onions, chopped 160g
      • 2 teaspoons garlic
      • 1 tbsp. SR flour
      • 300 ml vegetable stock (or water)
      • 100 g finely chopped peanuts
      • 90g roughly chopped cashews
      • 175 g breadcrumbs
      • 2 tbsp. liquid from the jar of sweet red peppers
      • ½ tsp. dried oregano
      • Salt and pepper to taste
      • Flour for coating
      • Oil for roasting
Oven: Pre-heat to gas mark 5

Stew the onion in the oil for about five minutes or until soft. Add the garlic. Cook for a few more minutes.
Sprinkle the flour on top. Stir well. Add the stock or water, stirring all the time. Bring the mixture to the boil, and simmer slowly for two or three minutes. Stir in the nuts, breadcrumbs, herbs and seasoning.
Turn the mixture on to a floured board, and form a loaf shape with your hands. Coat evenly with flour on all sides.
Heat the oil in a roasting tin. Place the loaf in the tin. Bake for 30 - 40 mins

    Hi,
Was going to make this tonight, but didn't know what the liquid would be from the sweet red peppers. Also I had risi e bisi leftovers, so I had that cold instead. I think this ingredient should be changed however, so that this is a stand along recipe. People might do this recipe and not the one the red peppers are for. So please advice on what liquid it is or can we use water do you think.
    Thanks in advance

    Morning guys and gals,

However the concept of vegan planner has been a sticking point with us, mr arty truly believes this cannot be a healthy diet so I was wondering if any veggie/vegans or anyone knowledgeable on this would be able to give me a brief overview on why it is perfectly healthy to be a vegan? His main issue is protein intake but Im sure it must be fine or all the vegans in the world would be ill all the time. :rotfl:

    Hiah,

Sorry was at work today when I was needed here!! I don't have time for a long answer i'm afraid, but reassured a vegan diet is healthy if you if you avoid a junk food vegan diet. So a homecooked diet based on fruit/veg/pulses and grains is healthy, so long as you make sure to get selium from brazil nuts and omegas from flax or rapeseed oil etc, as discussed before. As the planner isn't based on a vegan diet of chips, crisp, chocolate etc, you don't need to worry. As mentioned by weezl there is plenty of protein in the planner, if you need me to look over it a bit more though let me know. If you need a longer more detailed answer, let me know and I will reply on my day off on Wednesday or Friday, as time allows.

hmmmn interesting.. I think I see where you're coming from, but also kinda disagree because I hate things going to waste and especially on a planner as thrifty as this one!

as a compromise, how about the recipe uses up the juice, but gives a possible alternative for those who are cherry-picking the recipes?

I just went to taste the juice and it's a syrupy vinegary stock with a lovely taste of red peppers. I'm not sure what would substitute... possibly a nice vegan stock with a little sugar/honey and a splash of balsamic vinegar?

hiya shanks, glad you're still liking the bacon pud :)

yep, sorry I've been slow with that whole meal! Allegra kindly went back and found the linkies about it for me but I've been a bit hectic, woolley brained and down today (nothing major, just post-babyness) and now I need to sort some stuff out for DH, but I will certainly get my head round it tomorrow or weds:o:D
