We had the chicken pie that i made extra of last week and just heated in the oven we roasted a couple of pots for a change and had with sweetcorn and gravy was delicious.
Also made bread which was wholemeal this time and did some of the tomato oat biscuits which i do not recommend as they are so moreish they will not be MS in any way do not say i didnt warn you readers:rotfl:
Need to make some hummous later or wont have anything for lunch tomorrow and the bacon pudding is out defrosting for tomorrow.
Been making ex tea with a double dip and so far he hasnt noticed so saving money all the time.
Some of Kittys meals look good but think i will have a hard time persuading him to try though saying that he thought the mushroom pasta sounded good so there is hope yet.
Arty glad everything worked out for your meal last night Nigella look out someone to take your crown:rotfl:0 -
weezl DS3 said the 'gravy' for the chicken and onion pie (the bit that didn't fit in the dish) was nomnom. And the pie was 'absolutely gorgeous'. He wasn't at home when we had the last one. We had it with potato wedges and vegetables. He actually said that it was very filling too. Allegra- I love extra detail. I am so nosey I like to hear what everybody is up to.
We made a big batch of pie filling so we have enough for other days. The pies were again gorgeous and we think they may be the favourite...oh apart from the chilli and the carbonara and the pasta alfredo.....lol;):)

those vegan planner ingredients look really good, the kind of stuff I like to use all the time.
I love olives, capers and all the other bits too. Haven't tried adding capers to a pizza - but I might now!
Have just made a giant portion of nut and seed butter using some ancient pistachios from the store cupboard, sunflower seeds, also quite elderly and flax seed. DH ate all the last lot, so needed some more for his toast
He is treating our own personal planner much as I do a diet - the more I explain what we are doing, the more he focuses on not getting something. He is eating supper every day, which he doesn't usually, wanting lots of stuff between meals and wanting anything that's different to what I had planned. I have found however, that if I keep him supplied with cake, he tends to eat that, or toast, rather than anything TOO offplan
Surprisingly, it is still going well, we have spent extraordinarily little and I am still pleased
There is so much more than sustenance tied up with food and eating isn't there - if there wasn't, we would all be size 10, well not us 6 footers, but you know what I mean!
Edit - love hearing all the extra detail - extra portions is just the kind of thing I do too, especially when I am trying to eat less. DH calls bad days a chocolate biscuit day, and a really difficult day is a double chocolate biscuit day with extra chocolate0 -

...see and our version is cheaper so I'm sure people feel less murderous after tucking in;)
re the risi: frozen peas and slithers of cut up sundried toms garlic and oregano?
I like the sound of this version and Allegra's half peas, half chickpeas version. I am willing to retry a version based on these ingredients, I even have frozen peas, sundried toms and garlic paste and I have dried mixed herbs, so I would just use that instead of the oregano.

Panzanella- from planners 2 and 3 (and also to use up arty's crusty bread
)
Ingredients:- 2 tins plum tomatoes, cut into bite-size pieces (juice drained off and warmed up seperately with 2 tspns sugar, salt, pepper, 1 tspn vinegar to make a little home made ketchup)
- 1/2 a jar of olives stuffed with garlic, sliced very finely
- 2 small onions, very thinly sliced
- 2 tspns dried herbs (I used dried oregano, very nice:D)
- 75ml oil
- 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1.5 loaves HM bread, cut into cubes
- In a bowl, combine the tomatoes, onion, garlic and herbs. Drizzle with the oil and the 3 tbsp vinegar, season with salt and pepper and toss well.
- Place half of the bread in a wide, shallow bowl. If the bread is quite stale and dry, you should first spoon a few tbsp of water over the bread and let it soak some of the water up, then with your hands squeeze all of the water out and place bread in a different bowl before proceeding. If it isn’t too stale then you can skip this step.
- Spoon half of the tomato mixture over the bread. Layer the remaining bread on top and then the remaining tomato mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour or until serving time. Just before serving, toss the salad and adjust the seasonings with salt and pepper. At this point the bread should have assorbed the water from the tomatoes and be all moist. If the bread seems dry for some reason, add a little bit more oil and toss well. Serve immediately.
I haven't made the bread yet, how much is 1.5 loafs in weigh or approx sizes compared to a comercial loaf. I only have 1 slice of stale white bread, was 4, but slowly drindled down since I started saving it for this. I have lots of granary to use though. Do you think it has to be white?
Thanks
Sandra

nut roast recipe- planner 3 (possibly planner 2 too if folk like it
)
-
- Oil for frying
- 2 onions, chopped 160g
- 2 teaspoons garlic
- 1 tbsp. SR flour
- 300 ml vegetable stock (or water)
- 100 g finely chopped peanuts
- 90g roughly chopped cashews
- 175 g breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp. liquid from the jar of sweet red peppers
- ½ tsp. dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Flour for coating
- Oil for roasting
Stew the onion in the oil for about five minutes or until soft. Add the garlic. Cook for a few more minutes.
Sprinkle the flour on top. Stir well. Add the stock or water, stirring all the time. Bring the mixture to the boil, and simmer slowly for two or three minutes. Stir in the nuts, breadcrumbs, herbs and seasoning.
Turn the mixture on to a floured board, and form a loaf shape with your hands. Coat evenly with flour on all sides.
Heat the oil in a roasting tin. Place the loaf in the tin. Bake for 30 - 40 mins
Like the look of this one. One for me to try.

I too am liking the look of the vegan plan, lots of things on the list which I would usually buy. We have always been big meat eaters but I am serioslly thinking about trying the day on/day off version as I think we might enjoy it. OH's divorce is about to be finalised at last ( fingers crossed) and that's going to cost , so extra savings will be particulalry welcome.
On a personal note, DS visitor visa is about to run out so we have to leave the country for a couple of days. Very bizarrely Vegas is the cheapest place to go :-D. I think they discount the flights and hotels to get you there. So I wont be around much for a couple of days, I will finding things to do that dont involve gambling in the gambling capital of the world !!Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0
