dear testers, hope you're all doing ok
as we're nearly half way through the month, just wondered how you're all feeling?
I'm not sure if this info will help, but shirley average has by now saved just under £185 if she's followed the planner exactly :T:T:T:T
ISOM felt it was more motivating to focus on the amount of money we've saved her in such a short time (and over the long haul)- thanks for that tip ISOM :A

hello murrell and potty, but all opinions welcome
the veganised version of the risi e bisi with the walnuts in is by far the most expensive main meal on the vegan planner.
It's still do-able, but if it's not delivering as much 'bang for it's buck' then I wonder about swapping the walnuts (it's priciest ingredient!) for something else, or reducing/ removing it.
What do people feel?
I really like it, but some folk aren't keen on marrowfats and murrel wasn't too sure about the dish without a something extra... so I'm just pondering really....:):):)
Arty do you look like amelia pond in all ways or just your hair? Great episode last night:D

Almost makes me feel sorry that I am not a Shirley average
Feelin' fine, Weezl. I did find this week's dinners a bit too egg-and-cheese heavy for me, though - we don't tend to do eggy cos of !!!!!! (hidden in a cake or batter is fine, otherwise it isn't) and I tend to use less cheese less often than this plan provides, as my bod isn't too hot on digesting dairy. However, now I have tested most, if not all cheese-containing recipes as they should be, I now know where I can or have to cut back to suit me
BTW, I am rather liking the look of the vegan planner/ shopping list - apart from not containing meat, it is far closer to the way we would normally eat. I expect I will be able to take part in testing that one out on a day on/day off basis.0 -
Hello.... pizzas were a great success,:j:j my friends think I have turned into a culinary genius now. They couldn't believe we had made the bases and sauce from scratch, and a lovely if somewhat tipsy evening was had by all.:beer::D
Weezl...just the hair Im afraid:(, I would love to look like amelia pond ( i love that name) I didnt get to see last nights dr who because of the dinner party (didnt get to bed till one:D) so will watch it when I get back from work...something to look forward to.
Im so pleased we have saved that much money because I spent nearly that amount on non-frugal summer dresses yesterday opppsss,:o:o:o. I bet non of you would do that:o

OK non-olive likers, do you like the following (in little amounts in a pie to add a bit of pizazz):
capers - never tried, but if there like olives prob won't like them!
roasted red peppers - never tried, but have had raw and steamed and there ok
gherkins - don't like!
pickled red cabbage - don't like!
this stuff:I like marinated tofu, but I buy the plain tofu and marinate in soya sauce and then fry, saves money and I personally prefer them, these ones seem to give me a tingly feeling in my mouth!!.
Of course this is me and everyone else probably likes the choices.

Apropos of nothing in particular, I have been reading a P.D. James novel a few days back, and was almost absurdly pleased to find the housekeeper character preparing Delia's onion tart for the murdered woman's daughter and her murderer boyfriend (he wasn't the murderer that murdered his girlfriend's mother, in case you were wondering). It made me feel all connected to the world at large. Well, the crime-writing part of it, at any rate.
DD was not too impressed with the redesigned Daleks last night. In fact, the whole audio-visual experience of the new series leaves something to be desired in her opinion. We are liking Matt Smith though - especially as time goes on and he is trying a little less hard to be David Tennant. We are looking forward to the Venice episode though - it contains vampires (DD's favourite), plus it was filmed in Croatia
Which brings us neatly back on topic of that traditional Venetto dish, risi e bisi - perhaps going back to its roots and replacing the marrowfats with frozen peas would do the trick for the vegans ? And if you lose the walnuts, I'd have it with olives - Murrell and Potty wouldn't though, so that's not much help.... I won't even mention pine nuts as an option for a frugal meal plan, although taste-wise, it would be rather fine, methinks. How's about, I dunno, half frozen peas to half chickpeas ? Actually, I'm gonna have to try that, sounds like something I would enjoy0 -

Perhaps putting carrots in the dish for colour to give a visual appeal as well as more nutrients. If we feel there is a need for nuts, perhaps some chopped up peanuts as they are cheaper.
